I have a whipple and nitrous on my cobra and I am considering the turbo route, any first handers with the HP or Hellion kit? If so how is the driveabilty and butt dyno feel also real dyno #'s plus install ease.

Not around these forums... Personally I feel a twin screw is more fun on a DD than the turbo. Look at Herman from HBH. He had a KB on his Cobra, then went with a whole turbo setup, and now he's going back to the twin screw 'cause he says it's way more fun to drive. I guess a lot of your decision should be made based on what you want to use the car for...

turbo ???

Thankx
Have the whipple and gas on the car and just playing around ran a friend of a friend from 30mph until XXX and I took him til about 80 and after that it was just a blurr, he was gone . Other cobra is stock everything baring turbo and exhaust .

04 cobra whipple (18psi street- 25psi & nitrous for u-know)
solid axle 390 gear
T-56 26 input, viper ops
k-member coil-over
long tube, mac catted h and mac exhaust.
315/30/18 bfg d-radial.
I can shift the car.

That instant tq. is awsome but the 100 ft. later fly by is upsetting.

you can take a stock 03 cobra and take the S/C off and drop a turbo on with SAME PSI and gain a good 50 hp so idk about the whipple changing to a turbo cuz whipples put out some good power.

If you put a KB or a whipple on, you are looking at nearly those same gains. Turbos will usually win out though because they dont have parasitic loss like the belt driven SCs.

However, they are both fun toys

its all in what you want powerwise and where you want it.

a turbo is going to be king up top, but laggy down low and just kinda eh to drive around on a daily basis.

a roots is great low and medium, and still pulls nicely up top, and IMO is alot more fun to drive. ive been through the turbo world with DSM's, and lemme tell you, nothing better than crusing through traffic in 6th gear at 1500rpm with nothing more than a mere blip of the throttle to pass people.

and about "Ease of Install". a kit is gonna make it easier, but its still alot of work to turbocharge a non-turbocharged vehicle. gotta run oil feed and return lines, and water feed/return lines if the turbo is also watercooled. gotta run piping. gotta take off old SC and stick on new plenum. gotta mount new headers. then mount the turbos. then run the wastegates and their piping(even worse if you plan on routing the wastegate back into the exhaust). IMO, its not worth it to me, i would go the Whipple/KB route when i feel the Heaton isnt enough.

Shhhhhhh.... Don't let Speeds8erM-1 here you say that! He gave me an E-thugging because I tried to explain that I felt a twin screw was more fun to drive as a DD compared to a turbo car. (Read thread here) He was all hung up on how the turbo would be faster, which I admitted from the start! He must have had sand in his vag that day or something....

/looks both ways before saying this...

Twin screws are more fun as DD street machines than big turbo cars...

/runs and hides from Speeds8erM-1

perhaps its your gearing thats killing you. if you want to have freeway potential, higher gearing is a no-no. he was able to pull on you because if he has the stock gearing, hes more suited for higher speeds. on a freeway car with the 6spd i wouldnt go over 3.73's, hell id leave the stock rear gears alone and just make more power, that way i can use my power in a single gear for a bit longer, which will gain more ground.

with your setup, youd definately do him in through the quarter. anything after that, his gearing is going to give him an upper hand, because he will stay in his powerband longer.
