I just picked up an 03 cobra and I must say I've been out of the game for a bit. It was pretty much standard practice on all my older 5.0's to drop some headers and off-road pipes with flowmasters in it first thing. So naturally I picked me up some 2-1/2" flowmasters and turn-downs, and a 2-1/2" x-pipe off-road pipe. MY GOD IT SOUNDS LIKE ****!!!, I swear it sounds as if there are rocks in the exhaust. I yanked that off-road pipe within 3-days and put the one that came with the car on there. It happened to be a 2-1/2" catted system. It only had 2 cats on it so I am assuming it was after market as well. In any case, I already have a pulley on it running about 16 lbs of boost (came setup on the car already) and a cold air kit (K&N). To the best of my knowledge thats it although whoever had the car before me obviously did some work to it. I am just wondering a good place to start making some changes. I am running 8.07 @ 93mph in the 1/8th on street tires (real street tires not drag radials). I think with a few mods I could easily get it into the 7's. Is the exhaust the right place to start? Long tube headers, 3" exhaust??? Like I said I am out of it for a while so I have some catching up to do. :)

Thanks
Ben

LT and complete exhaust is worth 50+ hp. blower pulley only helps so much with roots style blower. rotors beat the air and heat it up, so higher boost helps less and less, but it drags more and more from the engine. screw charger yields your max HP. tune,LT's, and screw charger. big money. have fun. kick many LS dogs. they suck. kinda like ricers, but worse. maybe not as stupid, but almost. also loudmouth seems to yield best sound/most HP.

I was cutting 1.9 sec 60 footers on regular street tires so I dont think traction was the issue although I know I will need to run my slicks on later passes. The super charger thats on there is a roots type (from the factory). Would you guys recommend LT's? What about size? 1-5/8" or 1-3/4" and the mid pipe, 2-1/2" or 3" catted or off-road? The KB might be a possibility but it will be down the road a little bit. I've heard of guys putting out 575hp on the factory supercharger on these 03-04 cobras.

I would start out with a gords ford heat exchanger, 16 lb's of boost = a lot of heat, headers will help take some heat away, pro 5.0 shifter, if it hasn't been changed already, the Kb will be the best mod you can do. If you ever have the trans out I would do the apten cooling mod as well ! Check out www.svtperformance.com , when I had my 03 cobra I was on there every day ! Enjoy, oh yea, there is the postban mod where you can make your boost guage show more than 10 lb's of boost, try the search function on svtperformance and check it out the 575 rwhp is probably with a shot of nitrous which will help cool things down as well

First things first, get on a dyno and see what your numbers look like. I don't think you can get 16psi with just an upper pulley. I see 14psi with a 2.8 RR pulley in the cold. LT will get you very little HP on these cars untill you get up over 550-600hp. The eaton is only good for 500-525 rwhp with a ported blower, with nitrous some guys are seeing over 600++ rwhp and 800+rwtq with shots over 125. Anything over 500rwhp you will need to upgrade you fuel, boost a pump, injectors, MAF extender, ect.. Check my sig for some numbers.
