03 spilling from the cap on the coolant resevoir???

My friend has an 03 cobra that overheated, we changed the t-stat and it doesent overheat now but it leaks coolant from the cap, after 3 new caps it still leaks from there, why?? We bled the system through the fitting by the supercharger once. should we do it again?? why would it do this??

Yes. You still have air trapped in the system is my first guess. Are you sure you didn't put the thermostat in backwards while you were at it? It can and does happen, or so I've read.

Continue bleeding the system multiple times to see if that helps. It sometimes takes a few "burp" sessions to completely rid trapped air from these cooling systems.

However, it's also possible that the plastic overflow resevoir has "warped" near the threads for the cap. It's not too uncommon for the plastic caps and the plastic threads on the resevoir to become ruined after being exposed to high temperatures over time...

Some folks will replace these plastic resevoirs with metal resevoirs (ie - Canton, etc) to help avoid this problem from happening. Or you could replace it with a new plastic resevoir too.

I would try to take it somewhere and have them bleed the system. It is worth the money for the peace of mind.

Also, what caused it to overheat? How hot for how long? I overheated my 99 and after getting it under control I had the same problem with it coming out of the reservoir. It ended up being a blown head gasket and the leaking cap was a result of compression in the coolant.

why??? It's SO easy??? Why waste 75/hr to have someone else do something so easy?

Because they have already been having a problem and after bleeding it they are still having a problem. A shop can do it and it will be done and they can also check for other problems if bleeding it doesn't work.

Basically, when we bleed the system there will always be a question of did I do it right? Especially if the problem doesn't go away. That was the case for me.

I guess the main key would be: Do you have a shop you trust?

BTW, I noticed you signature says "I love Jesus and my Wife". That sounds like a PromiseKeeper thing....have you been to a Promise Keeper conference?

idk if i was gonna spend 75 dollars on that car i wouldn't do it on bleeding the system.... take it to a shop and have them do a hydrocarbon test... in the test they remove the cap and take a solution and check for hydrocarbons.... the reason for doing this test is depending on how bad the car was overheated you may have a blow head gasket. or worse cracked heads or block
