UPDATE '04 cobra seats in my coupe (pics)

So yesterday i called a guy with a local ad parting out an '04 cobra that got totalled out a few weeks back, it was a gorgeous car, damn drunk drivers

Well, long story short i bought the seats off the guy for pretty cheap... they're dark charcoal with gray suede inserts and they match my stock gray interior pretty well. Unfortunately, the retarded tow truck drivers threw the biusted up rear bumper and tail panel INSIDE THE CAR after the wreck and scratched and scuffed the seats up a little bit, but i cleaned them up the best i could and they're definitely a step up from the stock fox seats. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Dirty, dry and dusty seats the way i got them (this guy didn't take good care of his interior )

After a 2 hour complete cleaning, suede brushing and conditioning, and leather conditioning, they look much better

Full power

New wiring to power the seats (thanks Mustang5L5! your thread helped)

Installed!

Rears are being cleaned and going in with some modifications tomorrow! I'll post with pics when it's all done.

Looks really good especially with the black and grey interior. I think they'd look better with some squarish head rests to kinda match the older style interior, if something like that existed.

I wonder if Halo headrest would be to tall? Be different. Definately a good looking seat. Having the matching rear wil look sweet.

I've been meaning to drop by a local interior shop and get a quote to recover my halo headrests in dark charcoal leather to match my seats

That's kinda what i was talking about with the squarish head rests. Didn't some of the newer seats come with a more "Recaro" like head rest?

Yeah, they used these 87-89, then they went back to the little ones in 90.

UPDATE and How-To: Cobra Rear Seats in a Coupe

OK so getting the rear cobra seats in the back of my coupe ended up being an all day affair... the seat bottoms went in pretty easily once i cut out a lot of the excess foam, i secured them really well with cable ties that are not visible at all, and i filled the gap in the floors by cutting triangular pieces of wood and stretching the stock carpet to cover them

the seat backs were too small, and left a really big gap on each side of the seats so i bought upholstery foam and gray automitive carpeting and made filler pieces for each side... i think they look really good and to me it looks like the car came with this interior from the factory now, i'm really excited about how it came out

as far as i know, no one has ever done anything like this in a coupe, only in a hatch, so i hope this thread can act as a how-to for people with coupes trying to fit these cobra rear seats in their car

now for the pics

rear seats cleaned up and conditioned just like the fronts

here's a shot of the foam cut out from the seat bottom, pretty self explanatory, just see where it hits the floor and cut it out

here are the wooden triangles i secured with 90 degree L brackets to the floor pan, the dimensions are 5" tall x 20" long, and luckily all my fingers survived using the table saw

i secured the seat backs with cable ties through the trunk area, and here's a shot of the gap left on the sides

i made a template of the gap out of paper, and used a crayon to make a rubbing of the boundaries

finished template

here are the materials i found at a local wal-mart, $8.50 for the gray carpeting and $14.99 for the foam

i traced the shape of the template and built up the foam in three dimensions to fill the gap, and then reversed it for the opposite side

i'm not a seamstress, so sewing these f'n things took me a long time, but they came out pretty good all wrapped in carpeting

passenger side fit and finished

driver side fit and finished

FINALLY THE WHOLE REAR SEAT IS DONE! you can barely tell there was ever a gap there

opinions?? should i make this a separate How-To thread??

So do did they just blot right in? I just put Cobras in my GT and was going to throw my old GT seats in my 89.

Looks killer man. I woud maybe get some carpet to match the rest of the interior carpet and it would look factory.

yes, they bolted right in, rewiring them is very simple too if you want to keep the full power functionality of the newer seats, the ones i installed are like 10-way adjustable or somethng insane like that

thanks, yeah i couldn't find any lighter gray carpeting, i don't really mind the darker gray of the automotive carpeting i used, it matches the dark charcoal of the seats and stuff, and i'm sure not re-sewing those things up all over again any time soon, haha
