Me and my manager where out to lunch last week and we saw a 04 silver police crown vic sitting in the parking lot. I started to comment on how I saw 2 black ones hidding on the side of the Interstate. The two I saw looked like they went straight from the lot to the highway, there was nothing on them .

Anyway my manager tells me that those cars would destroy my car, He was like " Your car wouldn't have a chance in hell with one of those new crown vics, those are super fast police cars". I was like " oh ok" and just dropped the subject right there.

I don't think they do anything to the 04 crown vics when issued to the police,as far as power goes. Do you?

I'm just talking about normal highway patrol crown vics for running radar.

Damnit wrong forum ( move to talk) :(

My buddy tim is in the auxilary here nearby detroit and he told me that they have a police package from the factory (suspension, gearing, etc..). 0-60 for a police interceptor is around 8 seconds which is slow as hell. the impala police interceptors have the same 0-60 time as the crown vic. ill try to find the link on where i found that info.

as far as short distances, you will beat the snot out of a police car. top end im afraid they would have you and me!!

You have a 99+, so how the hell is that?

You've got 'em on everything; hp, torque, mtx (for less driveline loss), handling and your aerodynamics can't be way worse either.

You put in shorter gears, delete cats and you're at 150+ in overdrive.

Those cars are boats.

But they have radios and helos, so they just hand you off like a baton if they want to catch you *that* bad.

Most people I think are under the impression that the police package includes lots of power mods. From what I have seen though, it's usually reliability stuff and some handling crap. Different struts and possibly springs, better radiator, lower temp thermostat, etc.

Most go karts can out run the Police Interceptor.

I know they wouldn't have a chance against my stang///

Although there are some PDs that have Camaros. The interior is gutted and the only thing left is the driver's seat. They then install a full roll cage and put the computer where the passenger seat used to be.

Oh, and you're not gonna outrun the motorcycle either.

Police helicopters top out at about 130-135, but they don't have to follow the road either. Altitude is thier friend, they can keep you on view for a loooooong way....

My unit will get up to 130mph like crazy. Our units have suspension mods, and a chip. They top out at 130mph and that's it. I raced another officer in my 02 GT the other night, and I killed him. He told me the next day, "that thing is as fast as hell".

Of course.

These 99+ GT are fast factory cars for the money... damned fast. Fast and cheap. And then there is the Mach 1... Real damned quick for stock, and no power adder. Look at classic muscle car times straight out of the factory if you wanna see how we rate. Some of those things were slow.

http://www.musclecarclub.com/main.shtml

And our rides are classified as just "Ponies" by those old standards (small displacement NA engines).

But we are so busy looking at competition in what, maybe the 1% (?) of stock cars on the road that are noticably quicker that we forget how these cars kick that @ss.

Then we get into the whole thing with mods... which always muddies the water. "Oh, even my modded Civic is quick as your crappy 'Rustang' (because I gutted it out, run illegal smog pipe and slicks and shoot nitrous up the wazoo until it granades)"

Yeah, whatever.

Most people drive really slow cars and we'd *know it* if we drove our cars like maniacs. They are at 90% potential just going from A to B at a reasonable pace.

Daily driving we shift at 1/2 max RPM because that is the most we really need to get where we are going. I've driven mine over a hundred miles just off idle (to keep traction in pack snow driving through mountains). No problem. All the power I needed.

Get a good shifter, run it near redline and consistant sub 6 second 0-60 sprints are cake... all day long. No "power shifting" needed. No busting the tires loose needed either.

TOO easy to break the law in these cars. ;)

Ha, our office is on the out skirts of town. The road is usually quiet. Just went up to 60mph anyways. More of an "exhibition of speed". LOL
Belive me, I won't make a habbit out of it. I instigated it anyways.

Glad you aren't a wet blanket.

I hate that you can get busted for "exhibition of speed". I think that is absolute nonsense. If I could go 0-60 in 4 seconds flat without ever breaking traction (I wish!), then what am I doing that is so crazy?... Belittling a fat obnoxious SUV with a single soul in it in the other lane?

Maybe it is about jealousy... Idunno.

Funny thing, years ago I got 1 point and a fine for chirping the tires (yes... just chirping) pulling away from a stop in a Suzuki Samuri... all 67 HP or so of it! That cop was in a bad mood I guess. After I saw what he wrote on the ticket, I looked at him like he was from another planet.

Hell yeah!

Low first gear, and that was without the full lift kit and monster mudders I added later... after that, probably 2 HP to the wheels. :rlaugh:

Here it is, mid modding:

Still, it had high and low gearsets like any good 4x4. I could light up all 4 in low 1st and "rip people out of the hole"... for the first 10 feet.

I remember I was merging onto the highway one time (in my 02 GT with just a catback) and I mean I hammered it pretty good. Got up to about 85 or so and in my rear view a ways back, there was a police interceptor...I slowed down and when he finally caught up to me, he pulled me over and first thing he said was "I had it to the floor and I couldn't even keep up with you in my bucket" He said he saw me driving aggresively before I got on the onramp and could hear my loud ass exhaust. Well he then mentioned how he races his 5.0 on the weekends and just told me to be careful and let me off.
