05 GT vs tree at 65

buddy of mine was on his way home and a little girl stepped out into the road from the driveway. it was either hit her. or hit a tree. he chose the tree. cars a total loss but thankfuly he is ok. messed up a muscle in his arm from having it braced on the shifter. other then that he is ok. litle sore. he is very lucky. the little girls parents are very greatful though.

65 is how fast was he going in a residential area??? Thats a lot of damage.

road is 55mph zone. its a back road and that's the 1/4 stretch that a residential area has started to be built.cant even turn into it from the road he was on. the driveway the girl stepped out of was for a storage unit.

Glad he's ok. Poor car though. Her parents should have been watching her better and he shouldn't have been speeding.

Little girls parents should be paying the deductible and then some. Watch your kids.

*edit I wouldn't really call 65 in a 55 excessive, over yes, but little children should be NO WHERE NEAR a road that travels at highway speeds, much less the road at all.

the guy took a risk for speeding, yes, but when push comes to shove, he took responsibility for that risk by turning his car into the tree and not hitting the girl. If the girl had that much sense and responsibility, it wouldnt have happened in the first place.

That could have been any one of us there so lets not jump on the "slow the hell down" bandwagon.

55MPH speed limit, storage unit place...sounds like an industrial type road. I'm sure any one of us would have been doing 65MPH down it too.

the pic does not seem to match your description of the "industrial" setting. looks exactly like a residential neighborhood to me.

um... i'm sure that pic was taken after the car was towed back to the owner's home, hence the residential setting...

it's very easy to judge someone from a computer chair but 10 miles over the speed limit isn't that bad, it's so easy to speed in newer cars, the suspension and interior are so smooth and quiet i often find it hard to judge how fast i am going, in my '72 cutlass and in my '91 coupe i have no problem "feeling" my speed

i'm glad everyone is okay, and i'm even more glad to hear he had enough presence of mind and reaction time to choose the tree

looking at the pic, with all the broken debris on the ground, i dont think that it is a shot in someones driveway after a tow. also appears to be grass showing up near the tire, and a stick on the ground there too. i cant imagine you would have the car towed home and dumped in your driveway like it sits in this pic. also, i dont know many people that have a wrecked car towed home instead of to a body shop, especially a newer car that should have full coverage.

10 over is hardly worth scolding the guy about. As mentioned earlier the girl was in a drive way from a storage unit, not a house. However if there was a lawsuit over this it would be thrown out on the grounds that the driver was driving too fast for the road conditions(assuming the road had snow on it or even around it as in the picture) and he would have his license more then likely suspended. Kid and her parents would be out scuff free.

Had he hit the girl instead of the tree and the girl had actually ran out in front of him then the parents would be more then likely paying for his deductible. Assuming of course he lies and says he was doing 50-55. If he doesn't lie he would be charged with vehicular negligence/manslaughter and have a nice cellmate named Bubba.

Either way it's a lose/lose. Kill a little girl, have your deductible paid for or hit a tree and have to pay it yourself as well as a higher rate.

I agree with bigcat. Looks likea residential neighborhood.

But i wasn't there, so i don't know what happened. I am not quite sure i would beleive that the speed limit on that road is 55MPH. Who would want to live in a house where you gotta pull out of your driveway into the Indy 500??

when is the last time you saw a storage unit in a neighborhood? i am not saying it is not possible, just does not appear that way from the picture. unless the car traveled a good distance before hitting the tree (assuming the tree is in front of the car in the pic), i dont believe the description given accurately describes the scene. im not here to argue without supporting facts, just stating my opinion with the information provided.

i was at one. its a 1/4 strech of houses that were JUST built within the last 6 months in a new area. its 10 miles out into the country. then the houses then another 10 miles of nothing till you hit the highway. only pic o have
