It's not fake, there was discussion on this with a saleen rep, and that the exhaust flows differently dependent on RPM to comply with legal noise level issues.


and just to defend my ride, besides the "fake" scoops (which original mustangs were guilty of, btw) what is all this other "fake" stuff on the 99-04 mustangs?

that sucks. that'll look really dumb when it's cold out, and smoke is coming out of the turndowns, not those.

a fake hood scoop and two fake side
scoops is enough. I guess that is not
enough for you though. Did you put fake
exhaust pipes on your car. Maybe you
could leave the pipes going out the back
and put fake exhaust outlets coming out
the side and wire some speakers so they
make sound to.

If i want somebody to think something
is cool about my car I don't want to be
(bs)ing them. You know what they say,
a car represents the drivers personality.

heres a pic to show its real! as u can see each muffler has two outlets! one, the center is always open, and as stated above the second, the turndowns are remotely opened automatically at high rpm's to compensate for more exhaust! very smart idea! plus the center exhaust looks great too!!!

If you want the effect of cutouts you don't place them after the mufflers, you put them at the point of least restriction foward of the cats. Plus where are the openers? Internal to the mufflers? It almost looks like Saleen connected the two mufflers with a single run of pipe and just tapped the center exhaust off of it. Walla, instant Y pipe. But without a better/closer pick who knows....

The exhaust system is an innovative "variable design," featuring twin mufflers with vacuum-actuated valves that open above a specified back pressure. When these valves open, a portion of the exhaust gases is routed through a second set of tail pipes pointed at the ground. This design offers numerous advantages. It allows the engine to be calibrated to produce higher torque. Secondly, it provides a free-flowing exhaust system, while still providing the capability for passing mandated pass-by noise regulations in the U.S., Canada, and U.K. Thirdly, it makes for some lovely exhaust sounds at wide-open throttle. The exhaust side of the engine also features a full 2 ½ inch stainless steel exhaust system, running from the exhaust manifold outlet to the tip of the exhaust pipes.

yeah what crash said!!!! and mineral, it does seem to be connected by the tips but thats not a problem they are still real tips exhaust does come out!

RE: The exhaust

It is what Saleen is calling "Dual on demand exhaust pipes"

For day to day driving the engine flows through the two main pipes in the rear center, but when you jump on the gas a valve opens allowing the exhaust to exit thru two additional pipes that are tucked up and under, the ones coming off the mufflers.

Due to D.O.T. “pass by” testing requirements Saleen had to turn the secondary pipes downward at the tips so the sound was bounced off the pavement rather than flowing straight out the rear.

Thus is the problem of being a "Manufacturer" vs a "Tuner".

That's a slick execution/solution. I like it. Nothing fake there, the creator of that 1st posted .jpg simply didn't know what he was looking at.

hmm i know this is common on lux cars to keeo them quiet at any speed, by varying the exhaust characteristics.

but this is a sema car, its doesnt have to be legal.

since the Saleen will be sold through the dealerships it needs to be legal.

No, the Saleen heading to SEMA is a different car.

The car pictured is from the Anaheim Auto Show, and is the Production S281-SC model. It was on display in the Ford new car area.

Still love the car. To me the Saleen has always represented technology and the look and features of the new model display that. I dont know about everyone else, but if I am going to spend over 40k on a Mustang I want it to have all the gadgets and technology it can.

The one that was at the Auto Show is the same one that will be at SEMA... There will be two at SEMA, one in the Ford display and another in the Pirelli display.
