We had the first really cold night of the season and now my Shaker 500 CD changer/player wont read or play any discs

Anyone have a problem like this ??? Is there an easy way to correct it or must I take it back to the service dept ???

Any advice is much appreciated

Sometimes if the CDs are in the car they get kinda fogged over and makes it hard to read if its real cold out. try wiping them off or warming them up.

just a suggestion..

I even tried CDs I had in the house... Maybe condensation got inside the player ??? I wouldnt think they would make it that temperamental but who knows ... its a FORD ( Fix Or Repair Daily )

I posted a thread up about 2 weeks ago, my friend has the shaker 500 and his quit playing CDs and he got a CD ERROR displayed. Two days later the head unit would not even come on. Ford replaced it and the one they replaced it with was bad too. The none of the buttons would light up when the headlamps were turned on, they replaced it with another that is so far working fine. My 1000 seams to skip or fast forward for a second on some cds, not all the time just occasionally. I think there may be some kind of voltage or amps problem with them all.

Skipper

I've noticed this several times on my GT. Shaker 1000. Skips backward, oddly enough. I haven't a clue who the OEM is on the stereo. I just knew when it started that I would be taking it to the dealer to have it replaced. Ford must know about this by now. I figure in another couple of months I will go in and complain. Hopefully they've got this figured out by then. I am sure the OEM will be fixing it and sending out new parts soon. Replacing it at the dealer right now just means another stereo with the same issues. I haven't seen the CD error thing yet. Just the skip. Other than that, sometimes I don't even listen to the stereo in favor of the wonderful growl the engine makes at 4000 RPM.

In my experience with ford radios...They don't like burnt Memorex cd's. The only cd's I can burn with are fuji and sony's. When it is cold out and you have a burnt cd other than those two brands I would just forget about playing them. I have owned a mach 460 in an 01' and the standard in the 99'. They would play "real store bought" cd's just fine. Maybe there is a problem with shaker 500's if you can't play regular cd's

I've had a problem occasionally with a Mopar cd player on really cold mornings where it won't read any cd's. Using the defrost vents to dehumidify or warm up the disc makes it work. I would not be surprised if it is a condensation thing that is causing cold weather malfunctions. These new stereos do seem quirky due to all the complaints though. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.

Thanks for all the info guys... It helps to know Im not the only one with this problem and now I can make an informed decision on how to correct this dilemna.

Im probably going to wait a few months being that this seems to be manufacturers problem and I want to give them time to correct it rather than replace and maybe have to replace it a third time. The less time they are in my car the better

The radio works fine but its going to suck being without CDs.

peace

Ok I have a few shaker questions. I have a mustang GT on order with the shaker 500 unit. 1. Is it sirius ready? 2. Does it have a seperate amp suppling the power or is it all inside the head unit? 3. If the head unit did go bad, what are the chances of swapping it out for an aftermarket head unit and getting better sound? I've purchased several head units from crutchfield and installed them myself in the past. But i've never messed with a OEM unit putting out this much power. Any info anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!

I know the old mach systems were not rca. SO we had to put a smalle amp in when I put the new head unit in but that blew my stock paper speakers. I don't know how sirrius jacks in, but if it is race, you are going to have to jerry rig it and make it work somehow

same thing as with the other post, if the radio stops working, which I bet it will, I would have it replaced now. The dealer here had the part in stock......I think Ford knows the is a problem.....TSB will be out soon

I also have a GT on order with the shaker 500. Does this upgrade add speakers?? Or is it just upgraded speakers? If its just upgraded speakers then I will jsut get the stock system and upgrade it myself

I had a skip happen to me, but I think I hit a bump, so I ignored it.

No real problems yet, but I'll be sure to report any if I see any.

It appears the major issues are with the 500. I have the 1000, and I've had 2 skips since getting it 4 days ago. It's very sporatic, but for the most part. No real issues.

Sounds like this is a pretty real issue.

Alrighty. I took it to the dealer on Friday and left it there for a few hours for them to look at. They decided without removing the unit that I would need a new system. They said when the unit is removed they have to remove the two side panels of the dash, the front panel cover that covers ac/heater, and the center island which covers the shifter.

I am gratefull they decided not to remove the unit the new one comes in. They said it could be up to 10 days before they get the new Shaker 500
