Purchased an 08 got, 4.6L with long tube headers, straight piped, put back in standard exhaust, cats, mufflers. Went to go emissions, failed cause the check engine light doesn’t light when the key is turned on. Any suggestions? Help
Make sure the previous owner didn't take the bulb out or cut a wire, if they did go back and slap 'em.
Sorry, can't stand devious sellers, my opinion is they should pay for repairs but I digress, welcome to stangnet.
Wish the bulb or wire was it, pulled the cluster out of the dash, all solid state no bulbs, soldered in LEDs don’t see how a wire could be cut either as the harness looks uncut. Any other ideas,
Yeah, stick an exhaust gas analyzer probe up the inspector's tailpipe! Are they too lazy to do a sniffer test these days? Failing the car over a non-operational CEL is a frickin' joke.
If the CEL doesn't come on it may signal a problem with ready ness monitors during the vehicle self check on start up, I don't know what inspections are outside NY but here they don't use sniffers they riun emissions test by hooking up the inspection machine to the OBDII connector.
Either way, if the emissions are within spec, why should it even matter if the CEL works or not? The whole idea is to reduce atmospheric pollution but for the vehicle inspectors, the main priority is to make money instead.
