'09 GT Stock Air Intake with drop-in K&N

I found an article on removing the 'silencer' - haven't tried it yet. Does anyone know of anything else I can do (I guess remove & put back if necessary - CARB State) to get rid of some of the factory 'blockage' 'til I can afford a correct cold air kit?
I'm gathering info 'til the Temp here gets out of the 'teens' (no garage).

I figured as much, but you never know. Interesting that the reply came from someone who's ride looks so similar to mine; down to the wheels, tinted 1/4 window (instead of louvers) & the 3:55.
I set out to replace my 'bare bones' '07 stick-6 with a comparable 2010 (with planned upgrades).
When I get my Garage put together I'll detail how I ended up with a new left-over Glassed Roof '09 GT with over 5k of options & the 'Pink'. The circumstances might be of help to someone. (I'm personally still in shock)
