12v Power Source For Gauges

Guys I have my gauges installed but I have them wired so they stay on all the time and obviously this will kill my battery...I need a 12v power source that will not shut off when cranking the key...now the question is, What would that be?

Dan, I'm not sure where your gauges are located, but the ignition wires under the column stay hot at all times the key is on.

And if you dont care about possibly having something turned off while the starter circuit is active (myself, I could care less), your choices go up even more.

so you need a 12v+ with ignition on. should be able to find it in your steering column.
the wire you need to look for should only give you power with the key in the on position not cranking.

yeah that is what I meant...the key in the on position....I have my fuel pressure and nitrous gauges hooked up but i just need to quick splice into a wire and wondering what would be best

If you just need any old accessory power source, pick something close to your gauge and that has a little fudge factor room. You can tap into the fusebox if that's simplest.

In the ignition switch is where you will find the wires you want. Take these diagrams should help a lot. i wired mine into the same fuse that the standard dash lights use. That way they will dim and only come on when u turn the headlights on. U have to get creative with the plastic fuse cover because it doesnt wanna snap back into place with wires running in there, but u can make it work.

He's trying to wire up his gauges or the lights for the gauges? If for gauge power wouldn't he want them on not just when the headlights are on? Maybe I read it wrong.

I wired mine to the radio.

But they are tinted so they have to be on as long as the car is on. If they werent tinted I wouild wire them to the headlight switch.

Since they are digital and to work properly they need to get set back to zero to be calibrated all the time...I took the easy way out and just put a switch inbetween to shut off and on the gauges.

The large Red/Lt. Green that goes to the ignition switch in the column is what you need.. Good for up to 30 amps, needs to be inline fused though..
