164 = automatic cars
157 = manual transmisson cars

Early 302 motors used a 28oz imbalance (external)

Starting in '82 (?) Ford switched to a 50 imbalance (external)

flywheel

i believe that if u need a 28oz flywheel that is 164 tooth u can get 1 out of a 70s mustang and it should work with an aod if that is what ur tryin to accomplish

u can buy 157's and 164's for any combo nowadays if you pulled a 157 out and you need a 28oz buy a 157T 28oz. To use a 164 in your mustang you would need to change the spout on the starter. But what the hell do you need a 28 for, did you stroke a motor?? then guess what damper it needed???

He may have an '81, judging by the 81 in his username. That would require a 28oz imbalance, from what I recall.

no i have a 72 ford falcon block but its got 84 heads. i got the flywheel rebalanced at 28 oz and it fixed my vibration prob. now i'm getting like a bluish white smoke from my exhaust. My dad had the engine before i did so i'm just gonna start over with it. Should i try to use that block or start with a different year block or what?? any info would be greatly appreciated

It depends on your goals.

Your block is a non-roller so it would be cheaper but won't make as much horse power as a roller one (in theory that is) You can try to find a wrecked 5.0 and use that with all of it's forged internals.
