I have ran across 2 1966 mustang titles (ohio) with original vin tags. They were my grandfather's he rebuild cars back in the day. I was wondering if they were still usable? Worth anything? Or best put in case and put on wall for conversation?
I don't think they are useable but I would check maybe with Ohio DMV. I know Ohio is tough on laws regarding vins and swapping them however I have also heard of people getting around those laws and building a basically new car and using the vin as if they were restoring a vintage car. You may have had to keep a portion of the original car like maybe the firewall or dash to make it legal?
In the State of Iowa, once the VIN is separated from the body, you are in violation of the law. Requires DOT to examine the vehicle to ensure it hasn't been VIN-swapped.
I'd say it's not worth the chance of getting in trouble with the boys in blue.
