Hey Guys,

I'm having trouble figuring where to begin unscrambling this egg.

Long story short, my turn signals don't work anymore. They flash fine when you turn on the hazards, but get nothing when you actually operate the directional lever on the steering column (ie actually communicate to other drivers that you are turning.)

There is one thread on here that describes an almost identical problem, but didn't really seem to go anywhere, at least that I could tell/understand. You can read it here: http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/threads/turn-signal-cam-now-no-blinkers.840052/#post-8455811 .

I also found two wiring diagrams that are somewhat useful, but still hard to understand for someone of my experience. I included them below:
1967 Exterior Lighting and Wiring Diagram: http://averagejoerestoration.com/resources/mustang-wiring-and-vacuum-diagrams/1967-mustang-wiring-and-vacuum-diagrams/67exter.jpg

1967 Wiring Schematic: http://averagejoerestoration.com/resources/mustang-wiring-and-vacuum-diagrams/1967-mustang-wiring-and-vacuum-diagrams/67exter1.jpg

One last (possibly) important detail: I had a no-BS security system installed last week (http://www.autopageusa.com/t_inside...4&prodID=9d4674a3-5d32-4b3e-9f86-415b69298e0d), could that have caused the problem? I am not saying that the turn signals stopped working right after the installation - it could have been before and i didn't notice - but I do know that they worked relatively recently and now they don't, with the install of the security system being the only main event that has transpired since they worked.

So, where to start? Are there any troubleshooting procedures I can go through before dropping $100 on a new turn signal switch? Can I be sure that a new turn signal switch would even fix the problem?

Thanks!

Tyler

Do the bulbs light up when you move the lever right or left ?

If they light but do not flash it is probably the flasher under the dash ,If they don't light up it could be a ground or the turn switch inside the column .Use a test light to see if there is power to the flasher under the dash when the switch is on ,one side will be hot if it is good .

Hey Thanks for the great response, horse sence!

The lights themselves don't do anything when I engage the L/R turn signal lever. The indicators on the dash don't do anything either.

So, I've heard of people mentioning a test light before. Do you know where I could get one? Also, how would I check to see if the ground is good? Something tells me that's what it is....

Thanks again.

If no lights at all check the fuse ,the contacts may be corroded. You may need to use some sand paper on the fuse tabs and clean them .
You can get a test light and any parts store ,one side of the fuse should be hot with the key on.If both sides are hot with the key on then it is something after the fuse box such as ,flasher ,turn switch ,ground or even bad bulbs .And it could even be the headlight switch ,but start with the fuse box.

I had that same problem. Have you recently replaced the wiring harness? On mine, the new bulb sockets were not fitting the bulb properly. I spliced in my original sockets to the new harness and they started working. Good luck, electrical problems are the worst!

Is this an original Cluster that would work in my 1987 Convertible 2.3L? Turn signals work, but not correctly.
