Well, the Fairlane is here. I drove it about 50 miles this weekend, here and there.

Thoughts:
- It is definately road worthy.
- Starts right up, idles nice.
- The ride is very smooth.
- It is fairly fast, not like the stang though.
- It seems to be starving for air by about 4000 rpm.
- Essentially stock 390 FE engine, 4 BBL carb, stock exhaust, stock C6 tranny
- Wipers, headlights, turn signals all work
- AM radio does not work.
- Fan works, heater is not hot. The heater core is currently bypassed.
- I do not know if it will leak when hooked up.
- The exhaust is very quiet ... too quiet.
- While cruising around, I can almost not hear the engine at all.
- The back appears lower, it needs new springs
- It needs paint.
- It needs new seat covers and carpet.
- The dash cover has a crack or 2. It should be re-covered or replaced
- The dash-mounted tach does not work
- I have gotten at least 5 "thumbs up" while cruising around.
- 3 people stopped by to ask questions while I was filling it up with gas.

Plans:
- My mechanic (Tony) is giving it a thorough exam Tuesday.
- He will make sure it is reliable and can be driven anywhere.
- Replace rear springs. That is not what they are called, but I can't think of the proper term for them right now.
- Then it goes to the paint guy (I am talking to him tomorrow)
- After it comes back from paint, I am taking it to the interior guy.
- While it is being painted, I want to get the bumpers re-chromed.
- The only performance upgrade I am planning right now is exhaust.

- Bottom line ... I love it.

It's too bad when you guys get these cars and then don't have a plan mapped out.

It's great to see you so enthusiastic!

I haven't driven newer cars for very long so I enjoy 'em (and the creature comforts), and you and Nik are enjoying the spartan old stuff. :nice: Little things like vent windows are cool (that's one thing I miss on the new cars).

Have fun!

keep procrastinating on the stang and hopefully she'll get pissed and let you keep it. another thought is to get a storage garage and park it there and tell her you sold it.

seems like after you work your magic, the GTA will be smokin hot.

Is that the same car that the delta house transformed into the "eat me / death machine" parade float in the end of Animal House?

I'm pretty jealous... the older cars have a certain character that newer cars do not.

Don't be surprised if new springs don't raise the rear-end up very much. That rear ride height looks about right. (Wheel opening about an inch or two above the top of the wheel.) 40+ years old on the ones that are on there. Prolly kinda weak.

The heater core isn't too difficult to change. The whole heater box gets pulled and you disassemble it, outside of the car.

Put a "Performer" intake and cam on/in it. It will go really nicely.

"Autokrafters" has all the parts that you need to make that a REALLY nice car.
