1969 Trunk Mat and Well Liner

I was about to order a trunk mat, filler board, and well liner from NPD. Should the '69 have the "spatter" or "plaid" design, and is it best to get the cheaper vinyl or stick with the crazy-expensive MCA approved burtex mats. Also, does the well liner for the convertible come with the cardboard divider? The trunk has a pretty thick coat of undercoating, any ideas on getting it off? I'm trying to restore the car pretty close to original, and I was wondering if anyone knew where, and how much, undercoating should be in the trunk.

Thanks.... it seems like the spatter may be the way to go, simply because it looks better than the plaid design. But I am still amazed by the fact that about half of the '69's I have seen have spatter, and the other half have plaid. Did you buy the vinyl or original style mat?

Hmmm, I am pretty sure the spatter design did not enter the picture until 70' which is why you do see it in some 69's since the size is the same and many folks object to the plaid. I know my 69' vert came with the plaid still anyhow and by the looks of it it was the original liner still too. I have no intentions of replacing it though, I am just using it as a pattern and going with carpet instead, much nicer.

BTW, no the well liner does not come with the cardboard, you must by the divider seperately but I would replace it with something better like a piece of masonite or a steel divider if you want the supposed exploding gas tank protection.

Isn't there a piece of cardboard sewn onto the well liner that acts as a divider? The well liner that's currently in the car could be wrong, so I'm really not sure what to look for. I haven't found a cardboard divider for the '69 convertible in any parts catalogues, where could I get one? My car had also had a plaid mat, but I have no idea if it was original.

well i think they started using the speckled mat in the later half of 69 but it mat be the later half of 70, i've seen it both ways. i honestly think it has more to do with which plant the car was made really. my old 70 cougar still had the original plaid mat when i bought it. maybe call to kevin marti or Bob Perkins Restorations could tell you the best way to determine it. other than that i would pick whichever one you like best.
