My dad has a 1970 Boss 302, with approx 43,000 original miles, original driveshaft, matching numbers for engine. He has owned it since 1985 and put very ferw miles on it, he has some work done here and there, most recently a complete tune-up, pluds, wires, points, etc, paid around $600, what is the car worth?

The paint is original and it has been garage kept since 1985.

If you have any more wuestions email me or post back, I will be away from July 12th - July 15th, I will get emails on the 16th when I am home.

Well thanks for the bids, I really wasn't looking for bids, but he may sell it he isn't sure, he doesn't need the money right now so it is not a priority.

it looks to me like it definitely needs a good resto, especially the paint or at least a big portion of it anyway. some wear on the interior, needs a new dashpad, missing smog equipment, incorrectly painted engine parts, etc. i'm going to guess it's probably about 24-25K, possibly more since it is pretty low mileage but that mileage needs to be documented miles because the car could have been driven a lot in it's early years and it might actually 143,000 miles. my 93 cherokee looked like it could have had 60k miles or so when i bought it in 2001 but it had over 160,000, it too had been garaged by the original owner so looks can be deceiving. anyway, it needs a lot of work although from what i can tell in the pics it's mostly cosmetic stuff.

question, what are the rear gears in the trunk? are they the original rear gears? if so it would be good to keep them but them in a box and keep them in the garage somewhere where they won't rust. i also noticed some rust in the rear decklid which could point to other rust issues like floorpans, trunk drop-offs, lower quarter panels, door corners, etc. he needs to have those areas checked out really good. if there is rust present in those areas it would be wise to get them repaired now before it spreads to other parts of the car.

i would venture a guess that there probably is rust developing in other areas of the car and that will greatly affect the price he could get for the car, especially if it gets worse. i would say that as long as everything is original on the car at least the main things like engine, trans, rear end suspension and body parts he has a good car there but if he decides to sell it would be a fairly large project for the next owner which will bring the price down.

my suggestion is for your dad to contact a reputable restoration shop, preferably someone that deals with boss mustangs like Bob Perkins, about getting some of the obvious defiiencies corrected before the car deteriorates further. i would also suggest storing the car in a climate controlled garage as well to prevent further damage to the vehicle.

honestly, i think even $25,000 would be at the very upper end of the scale for that particular car without some serious cleaning, detailing and preservation work. if you're dad was to put a few thousand dollars into the car it would be worth considerably more.

that said i'd be willing to trade a fully restored 69 GT coupe for it once i get it done. LOL

edit: i looked over the pics again and i found what appears to be some rust in the right rear quarter behind the wheelwell. something definitely needs to be done to quell the rust now before it becomes a much bigger problem. i'd also have to say that this car is actually more of a candidate for a complete resto rather than just a lot of detailing work.

Having owned over 5 Boss cars, I can tell you from experience, about $27-$30k IMO. Just need to get a Marti report to make sure if all the items are truly original to the car, especially the shaker hood option and the rest of the engine and drivetrain. If so, $30k sounds about right unless it has rust issues on the underside.
