i replaced the idler arm on my 70 mustang about 50,000 miles ago, i was told it need to be replaced by the shop. well what i notice with this one is that the sleeve in the center of the bushing enables the rod end to move up and down about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. after looking at it more closely it looks like the sleeve in the center of the bushing is designed to move up and down. ive looked at pictures of new idler arms and they have the same setup, the bushing sleeve sticks out of the top and bottom of the bushing. the bushing feels tight. is the sleeve suppose to move freely up and down in the bushing.
