1970 rear glass installation

I haven't replaced my rear glass yet but was reading an article recently showing how to replace the headliner and the side panels. They removed the rear window in order to tuck the side panels in so I assume you need to attach the headliner and side panel before reinstalling the glass. I'll try and find what magazine it was in (Mustang Monthly I think) and let you know how they put the glass back into the gasket.

You CAN install the headliner later BUT it is best to have the glass out and tuck the headliner around the lip - I have done it both ways. I always wait until after the glass is in to install the triangular pieces until the interior is almost finished - that way I have room to work while installing the glass. A trick you can use is to get some squares of self adhesive velcro and stick one part to the back of the panel and the other part to the metal to make sure the triangle parts stay in place later - you then can tuck in the edges under the rubber. A word to the wise when installing the rear glass - THEY ALWAYS LEAK! - to stop this get a slow drying black sealer and coat the inner and outer channels of the black weatherstrip - use the black sealer as a lubricant for installing the tight moulding in place and wipe off the excess. Now you will have no leaks... I would strongly suggest using several widths of 2 inch masking tape before doing this so when the moulding is installed you can simply wipe it up with a bunch of rags and remove the tape leaving no trace.

You're right, they do always leak! Some sealer would be a good idea. So you just install the headliner with the glass out and put the fastback side liners in after the glass? You said this gives you more room. I assume you mean to deal with replacing the glass. I thought you had to also tuck the side panels behind the glass, no?

yes - you have to tuck the side triangle parts under the rubber lip - you can do that after the rear glass is installed - you will appreciate the extra room while installing the glass and you will not tear or crack the board on the triangles.
