I am new to the forum and basicaly wound up with my stepmothers Mustang 2. It is a 1977.5. Vin says 78 but DMV and the car says 77. But anyways it has been sitting for 30 years. It is a T-top V-6 auto in blue. Any suggestion on the how and what to do to bring this thing back to life? Any help would be great. Thanks.. Leo

Thank you for the obligatory pics and nice opening post....so 30 years huh? Cant see much detail but if its been sitting outside im sure a lot of it has deteriorated. I dont have a hand in restoring old cars so ill let someone with more knowledge chime in.

It is a high desert car [ Central Oregon] which I am told helps because it’s dry air. Floors seem ok but again what do I know at the moment. But any ideas or help motorwise would be great. I watched a lot of youtube vids on old car starts that go many ways. I figure I should as some folks who know these cars best. Here seemed to be the best shot.

Welcome to the group! Looks like a nice start - and T-tops to boot?! I won't mention any names, but some of us are jealous!

As far as getting it running again, I suppose first things first; does the engine turn by hand and/or have you tried to start it with the key?

I have not really done anything with it yet. It’s been sitting in Bend Oregon in my step mothers back yard. It ran when it was parked. [New car took its place and as usual for fords the trans was leaking some fluid] It is getting trailered here to Portland sometime next month.. I have title but keys might have vanished over time.

Nice!
Good luck!
As @LILCBRA mentioned is the most important thing: does the engine turn over by hand
Do you have experience with working on cars?
Do you know vice grip garage on youtube? he does a lot of videos of rescues of cars that where parked for years/decades... this could help you to get an idea what to do. But we will also try to help you.
My 74 Mustang II had also a V6 and was parked in 1990. Two cylinders where completely filled up and locked up by rust. When I bought it, the engine was already removed. But this means nothing what your engine will look like.
