Electrical 1984 mustang key switch issues

I JUST GOT MY NEW 1984 5.0 MUSTANG and it ran fine then all gauges started moving all the way to the right and then my key switch started to malfunction.
i replaced the key switch because after a while it would only start when i cranked it and as soon as i let off of the key it died. i found a way to keep it running but it only works in between the on position and start position. so i bought a new key switch and its doing the same thing someone please help me!!!!!!!!!!!

Under the dash, on the steering column there is an electrical connection that is the ignition switch, replace it with a quality part, check the connector and wires too,

I replaced the key switch and lock but it still does the same thing

Recall on Ford Ignition switches:

Revised 7-June-2014 to add Torx bit picture and source. Also added replacement ignition switch wiring pigtail picture, part numbers and sources.

Some of the symptoms of ignition switch problems are things that don’t work or are intermittent like radio, turn signals, wipers or heater.

There was a FREE recall on Ford ignition switches. They overheat and sometimes catch fire. That burns up the steering column and sometimes the car interior. Since this is very old information, you may not be able to get the switch replaced for free anymore. The auto parts stores sell the switches for $13-$15.

While you are working on the switch, check the wiring and connector closely. A replacement connector with new wiring pigtails is available from most auto parts stores
