I purchased a 1988 Mustang GT after lots of looking this fall. I really love the car and have had no serious issues with it so far. The biggest problem that it seems to have though, is the fuel mixture seems to be kind of hit and miss. I can't really pinpoint one specific variable that causes it. Sometimes when I go drive it seems like it's not getting full power when I push the pedal down. It doesn't stutter with RPMs, but it just doesn't feel quite right you know?. It's not as peppy as it should be. It will also backfire much more on throttle release. I don't think it's a timing issue because sometimes it will run very well and be very peppy, it doesn't miss. It seems to run best in like the mid 50 degrees outside, not too cold but a little chilly. I know cold air helps a motor run better but I don't think it should have such a dramatic effect. I have also been getting pretty bad gas mileage (even for a mustang) like 9mpg. I have pretty much came to believe the problem is the oxygen sensors. Has anything like this happened to anyone else?
