Thanks fellas for all the advice. When I first saw the car posted for sale and after speaking with the owner through text I was excited thinking it was a low mileage one owner fox body at a great price. I think it use to be kept in the garage and at some point it ended up staying parked outside. In my opinion the rust on the passenger door post is due to where the car stays parked. When it rains the passenger side is not protected and the rear hatch also collects water. If they would have kept it in the garage or even parked it on the other side of the covered area I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have the door post rust.

When I went to take pics of it yesterday I spoke with the mother and daughter for a good while, both really nice people. I asked how often would he drive it, like maybe around 3K-4K miles a year or more? She said oh no, he would only take it on a drive from time to time because it wasn't one of their main vehicles and it was just his toy. I brought up my concern about the wear of the drivers seat and told her for a 22K mile car that seat looks pretty worn but she was 100% that there was no way the car had 122K miles because he rarely drove it. So I just said ok and continued talking about other stuff on the car.

I did take a good look under the front of the car and did not see and oil leaks, couldn't see the rear of the engine though so not sure how that looked. They had two other people who went to look at it but said they would let them know. I told them if it was me I would take down the ad. Then find the time to give the car a good washing and clean everything they can. Then retake some good pics of it and repost it for sale and just take the highest offer if they really want to sell it. The current ad only has two pics and very the description is way to short.

You can tell they haven't washed the car or cleaned anything on it in a very long time. If I was the owner of it and was wanting to sell it I would definitely give it a good washing, do a little paint correction, detail the interior and engine compartment. Basically make it look as best as I can then take plenty of pics and post them with a good description of the car and I bet it would sell for at least $5K or more. If I could purchase it for $4K that is what I would do just to try and flip it for some extra cash.

The rust in the door jambs will cost multiple thousands of dollars to repair, and you will need to find good donor parts for it. Had I known about the rust on mine when I got it I would have passed... At least mine is getting fixed correctly but trust me to do that right will be expensive.

I'm currently having mine repaired at the moment. Mine was much worse than this one but either way the repair is the same. My car is at the body shop. They cut it out and welded in the replacement I got from a donor car.

Sounds like you are still pondering about it.

The FB appraisers are all over the place on that car.

Nah I had made up my mind to pass on it unless I could get it for real cheap.

They text me yesterday and said Carmax bought the car for $8500. That's more than double that I would have paid so congrats to them.

Yup, I was in shock. The unseen price was $7500 but when they saw it they offered $8500. I told her to take it as quickly as she can and run and she did.

Someone's paying $12K for that car, with financing.

That ability to finance is why dealers are getting more money for Fox bodies. With nothing down, that's a $225/mo payment on $12K. I'm sure someone will think that's a good idea.

Would they sell it with the rust or try and patch it up? I didn't even think they would sell a vehicle that old. Can't search for one on their site.

More money for cars period... You cannot compete with a car lot ever.... Financing is Key ( Whats my payment) LOL.....
BUT if the car lot is at a good location, it gets thousands of lookers every day.....

I'm glad she got way more money than I offered her. I just picked up a new project to keep myself busy while my car is in the body shop.

Got it from my buddy for $500. Been sitting in his shop for about 6 years. Last time they ran it was about a year ago. Good thing is that he said it ran fine and all the fuel had been drained.

Carmax will load it up with mud and spot blend it, then add a 14k price tag..... Brothers old body shop had a contract with both carmax and carvana... Cheap bull repairs on every car they sent in lol... The pillars are not that hard to fix if its only a small section rotted, don't even need a donor panel most of the time, I'd take that over frame rails, but generally the cowl or windsheild frame has rot in it too if the pillars are rotting from the inside out.

I rode for a couple of decades at the Sand dunes in Florence Oregon, before the Californians came and turned it into a wal mart parking lot... We started with 3 wheelers and then 4 wheelers or " Quads "as they were called..
I had been out of it for a while and picked up a 3 wheeler to just go have some fun with..... I had cut my teeth on 3 wheelers and so no biggie..... Wow, what a change to go back to one after being on Quads.... Worse thing was the trails had all been groomed by quads so my fat front tire was pushing a mound of sand wherever I went........ It got sold pretty quick....
