I just got this car about 2 weeks ago and plan on swapping in a 351 but I want to make sure the 2.3L runs before pulling out. But everytime I go to start it I turn the key and the accessory lights come on then I turn it to start, I hear a click and everything turns off and the engine never moves. I checked the fuse off the positive battery cable and it was blown so I changed that, but it still does the same thing. I checked the other fuses under the steering wheel and they were all ok. So I am so lost now!

What else should I check? Anybody got any ideas!

RE: 1991 Mustang Starting Problems! Electrical?

Hi Mstngd21,

When you turn the key, do the accessory lights dim? If not, power is not getting to the starter, or the starter relay. If the lights do dim, double check the wiring around the relay, it could possibly be a wire going to the starter relay or the starter is hooked up incorrectly or a wire is loose. Just as a safety precaution, whenever you work on the wiring, disconnect the battery.
