I have found a bone stock 1994 Cobra for 7900 bucks. Its the orangish-red and has tan cloth interior. Its listed to have 104k on the clock, but the car looks AMAZING. Its a bit of a drive from where im at to go look at it, but I think im falling for this car and I might have to take a look at it. Does 7900 sound fair if the car is clean inside and out?

Heres my first question.. I know the average run of the mill 5.0 put in Mustangs was very reliable, is this the same for the Cobra? And whats the main difference in the motors? I know Cobras have the Cobra intake, and I beleive GT-40 heads, correct? Im going to assume with the different heads it has a different cam also. Ive heard their 240hp rating is underrated a bit.

Next question.. How much are yall paying insurance wise for the older Cobras, as in pre-99? If you dont mind just throw out how old you are just so I can get a comparison. Im still pretty young compared to you guys, and the car wouldnt be in my name for a while, so insurance wouldnt be so bad from the start, but im just afraid when it was put under my name it would kill me.

Thanks a ton guys.

$7900 sounds a little high. You can talk him down.
Those 5.0's are solid. I would check for evidence of fluid leaks, burning oil/coolant, e-brake cable play. Have a mechanic check it out if you can.

Im thinking around 6500-6800 or so. No can do on the mechanic, its almost a 2 hour drive to the car. I know what to listen/look for fairly well though.

I would agree that under 7k would be more fair, for the price. As for the engine specs, you are correct with what you listed. In addition, they had 24lb/hr injectors and a different EEC program. They were rated at 265 hp, which was certainly under rated. The 93 cobras were rated closer to the number you cited. Good luck!

Oh yeah! My insurance is $70 per month for liability on my father's policy. I am 22 years old. Through USAA (an armed services bank that offers excellent rates) I was quoted $204 per month for my own policy with liability. This was one year ago, with one ticket on my record.

Holy crap man.. Being under your dads name isnt bad, basically $840 a year.. which is great, but liability only? Isnt that the minimum requirement for iinsurance? Id be scared to run that after seeing what happened to my buddy.. He rear-ended some chick in his truck, and he just had liability and had to pay for every penny of it. Id need close to full coverage if I bought it.. Im 17, but dont have any traffic violations.. but god i'd be afraid to see the rates, even under my parents name. Id be drained for money enough if I bought the car in the first place, I dont know if id have enough for insurance.. ahh damn. This sucks.

I pay about 80 a month on my current car.. with a good bit of coverage.

That sounds exactly like my car. I got a 94 Cobra for $7000 even a few months ago. It has 103,000 miles and is in almost perfect condition. I say if you can get it for 7 take it. Also just to let you know, the 96-98 Cobras are MUCH faster than the 94-95's.

I'm 23 and have a 96 cobra. USAA was a lot more expensive than Geico was for me. I pay 167 a month full coverage. I have one point on my license still and when I got the insurance, it'd been over a year since I had any. Keep your driving record clean, do well in school, and DON'T be without car insurance for 6 months or more. That'll help when you get it under your name.
