I own a 1995 Mustang GT with 121,000 miles on it with a manual transmission. I found another 1995 with 80,000 miles on it with an automatic transmission. If I get rid of mine and get this one with the automatic, would I notice a performance decrease going to an automatic? I drive a lot in busy traffic so an automatic would be nice for that, but I also drive a lot on the interstate.

I would go with the stick personally. Even though it has more miles on it, it will be more exciting to drive.

a manual w/ 121,000 miles is no big deal. It is more durable and will hold up better w/ less repairs and yeild you more power then an automatic will. If you get the automatic I guarantee you that you will be thinking WTF did I do that for . Mine has 127,000 Miles on it and I have no problems at all. Dont power shift and dont beat the hell out of it and a T5 will hold up for along time.

i'd go manual, personally, and i tool around in chicago with the dan ryan parking lot. if ya want an auto, i'll cut ya a deal with one that has a bit of a warranty on it yet, crashed the car before it was up. No problems in driveline at all, just tweeked the front frame when the bumper came off.

If you want the AUTO for convenience, then GET it. BUT, yes, you WILL notice a difference. If you want the performance back and you have an $1200-1300, you can get a shift kit, converter, and cooler, and NATURALLY gears.

Of course, you dont get the "funness" of the Stick, if that's what you like.

So having an auto and just going from 1 > 2 > D wouldn't be the same as a manual? Shift kits are that expensive?

NOT the same, just better....You still have that lousy 85 pound Stock converter hogging up an additional 10% HP.

SHift kits are under $90...You can buy one AND have it installed for about $175.

Will the shift kit then be as good as a manual? The car with the auto is the same color as yours. I like that laser red color. The bright red moldings and plastic on my manual are faded.

You will notice a difference. Like mentioned, you can make up most of the difference with the items RC mentioned.

I bought an auto because at the time I was living in Southern California and the traffic with a stick was a major pain. Since I don't go to the track I don't care about a minor loss in performance and my car has plenty of power to pass on two lane roads.

There are those few times on a twisty roads when I miss a stick, but they are becoming fewer as traffic continues to build.

Just buy what you want and enjoy it.

I've got a 95 AODE 5.0 with a shift kit and 4.10s. Pulls pretty good.

I like the consistency the automatic has to offer for the strip.

I'm suprised to see alot of replies on this thread stating the supremacy of the T5 to the AOD/E in old durability department....I figured the automatic to have a slight edge here. I've seen plenty of blown T5s.

I guess I'll find out how durable to my AODE is in the next week or so when I install the Zex kit. I've seen some built AOD/E's out there for not to much that'll be my replacement if/when this tranny goes.

One thing tho is that guys with 5-speeds dont drive the same as us guys with the AODEs.
If you remove the TC from the equation you got a good 500HP tranny with under $1500.
