So I just got a 1996 mustang gt back in September and when I drive my coolant runs low and the exhaust blows light white smoke. So I heard it might be a crack in the intake or head gaskets. So I'm thinking about just replacing both. What I wanna no is what parts should I get. And should I get a pi intake.

If you can spare the $, do pi heads and intake. That'll gain around 35-40 HP.

You can find a set of good reman heads for about 600, They're complete assemblies so you won't have to swap anything. Make sure you get the PI Intake from Ford and not Dorman.

You're going to want to do a timing job while you're in there. A set of everything but the cam gears is about $70 from Cloyes. Gaskets are gonna run you maybe another $120, new head bolts are gonna be about $60. You're gonna need to clean the head gasket mating surfaces as well, so plan on spending a few hours and a pack of razor blades on that.

Good luck, it's a big job but not too complex.

I would run a new factory chain and components as well
I replace VVT solenoids and chains regularly on 4.6 and 5.4 trucks (rattle)
Love factory parts
You can get them cheap on ebay
Buy a kit
It's cheaper
