1998 v6 3.8, will a 2000 be a direct drop in?

Im looking at getting a 2000 3.8 liter engine and having a mechanic dropping it into my 1998 mustang v6 3.8L. The engine comes complete, what extra am I looking at doing?
Are there parts to be fabricated to make the fit clean?
Please help on such short time, engine problems starting!
Looking at replaceing it anyways.

Also this week, I have my invader/ninja/showgun body kit coming in.I'm waiting to find the right Z3 fender's also.Strut tower brace, Tokico HP shocks & springs.
Working on a cowl hood i bought last year..Adding 2 K&N air filters where there's the gap in the cowel, covering an area to sit the K&N filters,make a scoop with the fiberglass I have, and connect some tubing with to connect to the throttle body.

The cylinders are bored .030 over with new rings, bearings, and gaskets. The crank was honed . There are forged pistons, TotalSeal piston rings, stock rods (shot peened and magnafluxed), and stock crank (magnafluxed). There is a gasket match port job to the heads and lower intake and some port work done to the exhaust as well. I'd expect this motor to put out between 220 and 240 horsepower, and more with intake and exhaust mods. It would make a great nitrous motor with the forged pistons or a bulletproof daily driver in its current form. It comes with new NGK TR55 spark plugs and a Fram oil filter.

All in all, add a possible turbo charger down the line..yeehaa!

it's a dirrect drop minus the puter needing reprogramming and maybe a couple throttle linkadge issues

There is a little more to it than that. The main issue is modification of the 99+ fuel rail to be setup for a return fuel system. A chip/reflashed computer is necessary.

ohh skat batman a complete motor should come with a fuel rail... and i mentioned the computer i do believe

I am pretty sure rpm-mustangs will make you a custom fuel rail and give you a wiring diagram to splice the injectors into the new harness.

you will need to fix the returnless fuel system? but wouldnt that just be blocking off the other fuel line? how much is this costing? you can get more hp/tq by moding your motor than with a stock 99 up..... alot more

There is also more to it than that. It depends on the year of the new motor, the body year. There are issues with the dampner, flywheel/flexplate, extension of the stock harness. You can't just block off the fuel line and make the system returnless.

I've done it... so I know what it entails.

how will the balance come into play? if the motor comes with the flywheel and harmonic balancer? wouldnt it not matter if it was neutral balance or not? just wondering.

I was going to ask why waste the money on dropping in a V6 when you could just as cheaply throw in a V8 instead. Then I read "Also this week, I have my invader/ninja/showgun body kit coming in.I'm waiting to find the right Z3 fender's also." So at that I realized you should be riding in a Honda and know absolutly nothing about real cars, much less how you're about to kill a perfectly good Mustang.

You got me all wrong!

Hell no, its allot cheaper then oem, and I was looking a little more on the unique side anyways, that is how I'v always looked at it.
A mustang is a mustang, and I love them very much
Beside's I was replacing a bent skirt, a deeply scratch OEM hood, a buckle on the bumper that came out, but has cracked it, my fender's have hail damage.
So this car has been taking a beat this past year. Hail the size of soft balls.
Not to mention I dodged a very large farm dog, and slid into barbed wire fence on an angle (I'd hate to kill some kid's dog)
So really no, I'm heading in the right direction, with plan's to add a turbo with intercooler.

Oh also I had a mechanic check my engine thats in it now (93000 miles) the harmonic balancer is out of wack, and needs replacing.Apparently the prior owner had a modded balancer is what I was told. It sqeeks frequently, and will need replacing.But I couldn't be botherd, rather have a new engine, not a rebuild!

Its cheaper because its uglier. You dont have to go OEM to get a good look. But the Shogun is the UGLIEST kit to ever be built for a Mustang.
