Ok i bought a 1999 cobra Vert a few weeks ago. I am new to the SVT world and know nothing about the 1999 as far as what upgrades to get.
I am looking for some advice from fellow 1999 cobra owners. Verts pref.

My ideas so far are new shocks and struts.. what comes stock in these for susp? anything special? are the headers on these good or are they the same crappy ones i had on my 2000 GT,

I am thinking about a new FMS drive shaft as i have some vibration issues i want to address. new shocks and struts, drop springs, steeda, Bump steer kit with X2 ball joints, new slotted rotors, are the stock brake calipers big enough to run 13" brakes? i want to switch the front bumper rear bumper and trunk lid with 03/04 gear WTF do i get these? "ALSO did they make a the same color red in 03/or 04 as they did in 1999?, new hood, full length weld in sub frame connectors, 5.0 or triaxe shifter, tell me what you can about this car guys.. i am a little confused. what is diffrent about these cars and the GT's like my old 2000?

thanks.

Mike

Cosmetic or Performance

SOunds like you are more interested in exterior cosmetic mods than under the hood. I also have a 99 cobra that I bought new but have put most of my mods under the hood and have chosen the performance route. I would probably recommend putting some 4.10 rear end gears first. Change out the stock shifter to a Steeda Tri Ax or MGW. Look at a CAI (cool air intake) and K & N filter. Steeda underdrive pulleys, and then change out the exhaust. I currently have a Kenne Bell SC, full length subframe connectors, Ram stage 2 powergrip clutch and many more mods. If you are interested in the underdrive pulleys, or a cold air induction kit, I have some that I could talk to you about.

For what it is worth...

As far as performance modifications-
- Replaced the stock exhaust with a Borla Cat-back system. Sounds more aggresive under heavy accl., otherwise not much different around town.
- K&N airfliter
- Tried Predator tuner (advance spark and richen fuel), but could not keep pre-ignition down. Gave up on this
- Swapped stock rear gears for 3.73 (this made the biggest difference)
No HP comparisons for before and after.

Handling modifications-
- Replaced all rubber bushings with urethane
- Replaced stock springs with BBK progressive rate (lowered car 1.5")
- Replaced stock shocks with Koni yellows (adjustable)
- Put Bridgestone Potenza S03 tires at all 4 corners (245-45-17). Expensive and lasted only 2 seasons. Will try Falken Azenas RT-615 in spring. These probably will not last long either, but half the price of S03s.

The tires made a huge difference and the other stuff made the car very tight in turns (no body drift). In all, an extremely predicatble car that is a blast for autocross course.

Replaced stock shifter with Pro 5.0. Better, but I now bang my knuckles into console if not careful. Maybe try the MGW shifter? http://www.mgwltd.com/mustang_1990-2004.shtml

As far as color goes, the 1999 SVT is "Reo Red", not sure if it it is unique to the SVT line.

Good luck!

I'm pretty sure that the 99 red is Performance Red, not Rio Red- I think that that color left the line in 98 or 97-

As for mods, below is what I have- I've got 4.10 gears, but haven't gotten around to getting them put in- Certainly the next step-

Fo with a JLT CAI and a good x-pipe. That will really wake up the breathing department and you should notice some good performance gains. But I think that all 32V guys will agree that the single biggest difference is the rear gear. Go with a 4.10 at MINIMUM.

I'm going to have to replace shocks and struts here before too long and I'm going with the Bilstein BTS system. They have a couple of more radical packages that would be more suitable if you're doing a lot of open tracking, etc. More wheel and tire will also help. If you are going for performance, you don't want to drop it more than 1.5 in.

The 4.10s are a great idea.
