1999 Ford Explorer 4X4 (4 door sport package). I bought this new, and it only has 44K miles on it, paid for but the problem is the RIDE sucks. Its worse then most trucks. My ass and back hurt in long trips, the dog gets car sick. BLAH. Replace the seats, get new shocks? Anything that I can do? suggestions?

sounds like the shocks may be shot, although I would have thought they would last more than 40k. You can always take them off and check them, when you compress the shocks they should rebound quickly. I think the explorer should ride like a ranger(I think they are on the same platform and use a lot of the same shocks) and the ride in my ranger was pretty good, I think I replaced the shocks around 120k....I bought the truck with 80k they may have been replaced before though.

It's an SUV. It will never drive like a car. I had one. A 94. Kept it for over 9 years and 120,000 miles.

The Ranger is a whole different beast. Not as top heavy as the Ex.

I had a 1996 Explorer...same platform as the 99. It was a rough ride for sure. I now have a 2003 with the IRS and it rides like a dream.
