2.1L KB S/C on stock 00 GT

Cant wait to see the results. Mabey a step by step pic thread would be cool :D
You will be one happy dude when you first take her out. A twin screw will make your 4.6 feel like a bigblock :nice:

Can anyone tell me how this "mono" chip is installed on the ECU and what level of complication is it?
Duck soup. Disconnect the battery, pull the computer out from behind the passenger side kick pannel, plug chip into the top of ECU and reinstall then hook the battery back up. Easy as pie :nice:

Make sure you clean the stuff off the connector. They seal it with some stuff.
You need to make it nice and clean so it connects well. They give you some emory paper I think to sand it off. Then I used some contact cleaner to make it nice
and clean. If you don't you will have problems.

OK so I understand that I might have been a little nosey but I called KB today just to make sure that the order was put in without any further involvement from me. I came to find out that the order was finally put in to the computer today NOT friday when I faxed the order form in. The sales personnel claimed that the orders are processed, packed and shipped within 1 to 3 business days.

I hope this "little hiccup" is not going to delay my receiving by a day coz I dont think I was this anxious when I knew I was going to loose my virginity in a couple of days.

Got my tracking number and it will be delivered tomorrow. :D I still can not believe I actually got my head together and got the kit.

Can somebody share how long it for installation? I consider myself a newb when it comes to this but I will have a friend who is probably going to be doing more than 50% of the job.

I've heard most people who have done suspension, etc. on their own car can do it in a weekend. Doesn't mean it can't be done in 10 hours straight, but I've heard a weekend is a pretty standard time frame. I'm sure someone who has done it themselves will chime in. Congrats! Please keep us posted on the install, etc. That is the same kit I want so I am really interested in what you think!

It's finally here!!!

You were right Gearbanger 101 I did feel like a kid on a christmas morning. I just could not get rid of the smile on my face.

The kit weighed 107lbs. I opened the box and found bunch of stuff in it (all the stuff KB said they provide. The intercooler is all black. The installation/owner's manual looks more like a book with 276 steps of instructions. My buddy and I read through most of it and found that I have to get some things tomorrow before we start on it. After spending more than 5K on the kit I had expected color pictures for installation but Im way too happy to be even bothered by it.

So far it seems like I have all the tools except 8 one heat range cooler spark plugs, good amount of carb cleaner and engine oil. Also thinking about changing gear oil since it is overdue.

Are there any recommendations on changing other things during the SC installation?

Excellent mang! :nice:

I would also replace the fuel filter. Also check all your COP when you remove them to make sure you dont have any cracked boots. At that age I would bet you even have a couple dead or dying coils.
Careful on the plug removel and installation. Dont over tighten them cause stripping one is all to easy and sucks ass :notnnice:

Also, TAKE YOUR TIME! Dont try to knock it out in one night. As a novice you wont be able to finnish it in that time anyway.

Update:

My buddy and I spent close to 5.5hrs and got third of the way on installation steps. So far we have removed front bumper, air intake, throttle body, plenum, intake manifold. spark plugs and injectors. alternator, ECC and cleaned the contacts.

Then we put the SC together with fuel rails and injectors and dropped it on the engine. We have started with the alternator mounting. I took some pictures but too tired to get the pictures from the camera after a whole day at work and the installation.

Tomorrow we are planning to torque the SC down, install alternator, fuel pump, intercooler and what ever left for the installation.

Yes, pictures are coming.

Got done with the project last night and took it out for a little drive just to get a feel. I was in 4th gear going ~70mph and noticed some crackling in the tail pipe at ~4200 RPM. I immediately let off the gas. My buddy riding with me confirmed that my engine was pinging :(

I drove back home and made sure not to exceed 2500 RPM. I have been running 91 octane gas for quite some time now and didn't think that was the issue. Today I pumped 91 octane gas at local Chevron and added "NOS Octane booster" only one recommended by Kenne Bell. After doing this I drove back home at similar condition to when I noticed the pinging and this time I could hear anything. The acceleration felt great!!!

I am planning on taking the car out for dyno tune once I can confirm that I dont have any pinging issue. Does anyone have any recommendation on a particular place for a tune, I live in San Jose, CA.
