I just bought a working 5 speed transmision for $75, as a back up. It is out of a 2.3L mustang. The guy who sold it said that it will handel more torque than the one in my car now!

A guy in Quebec sells the kits for $1500 (2.3) and $2000 for a V8. I found a pedal assembly that I'll pick up and keep the parts so I can sell my 2.3 5 speed to someone as a kit and that will help pay for my new tranny

The 4 cyl tranny is geared different. If you do use it, your car will feel very tourquey at low revs, and generally just pull better through the RPM band.
Andrew had been using 4 cyl tranny's in his Silver Notch for years and everyone thought his car was geared and all it was, was a 4 cyl tranny.
