hey guys i haven't been on in a while, but that's because i've been working my ass off to make some money, some of which will finally go to my deserving car. anyways, i have around $2000 saved up to drop into my mustang and maybe some more at the end of the summer. my npi motor is completely stock, but it doesn't have too many miles and its running strong so i figured i might as well go with a headswap. anyways, whats the best way to spend my $2000? i know pi headswap kits run around $1200 or cheaper if you piece it together (i'd like to get new parts btw), but i figure with the extra dough i could get some better heads and cams. i'm hoping after the $2000 is spent to have near or close to 300rwhp (i'm hoping it possible) and hopefully after the summer a nitrous kit will go on as well. so ya, how should i spend my $2000?

I'd buy
P.I. heads
some aftermarket cams& valve springs
PI intake
----------
$1000-1200.
T/B, Plenum,JLT CAI, ~$600
Handheld Tuner ~$350

That will get you as close to 300rwhp as $2000 permits

I second that. But you will need a bit more then $2000 to get you near 300rwhp.
i figured that, but the closer the better and maybe at the end of the summer hopefully i can put in a little more to reach my goal. btw, i'd more than likely go with stage 1 cams as this is my daily driver and needs to be smog legal.

edit: out of all the pi stuff (heads, cams, intake) if i was going to upgrade them (i.e. p&p heads, stage 1 cams), in order which would be the best and most effective, going with better heads, going with better cams, or going with a better intake. i know ideally its best off to have everything upgraded, but what if i could only afford one at the moment?

with only 2k ported heads are out of the question from what I see.

P.I heads and intake (I would try to find low mile take off's) ~500
cams (vt or comp) $550
springs (comp) $180
tune via xcal 2 $379

this would leave you some header or plenum/tb money.

Id just buy a whole PI engine and swap it in, thats what I would do if I was gona do it all over again.
the thing is my current npi engine is perfectly fine and very little miles on it. plus i see nothing wrong with using it given that my goals are relatively modest and nothing out of the ordinary. plus i plan to buy a truck in a year or so, thus spending excess amounts on the mustang just won't happen.

anyways, i think i'm gonna go with the stock pi heads and intake and just get them ported when i can in the future. and put the rest toward an xcal 2 and aftermarket cams and springs. given that, are vt and comp the best choices for cams and springs? which one would you guys recommend, given that i'll definitely go with stage 1 cams?

yoor probally going to fall short of 300 hp with only 2k to spend..

what other mods do you have done on this car, you might get better overall performance by keeping your NPI heads and just swapping the cams and intake for now and spending the remaining money on all the supporting mods such as LT's mid pipe for the long tubes plenum and TB and then when you have more money at the end of the summer then swap out the NPI heads for some ported heads.

now this is only a option if you are installing the stuff. because with only 2k you don't really have enough for ported heads yet, and it would not make much sense to swap the heads twice.

The VT stage 1 cams don't require valve springs but, the stage 2 VT's do.
I like the specs on the VT stage 1 cams the best I'd go for it! :nice:

I'd go PI heads, cams and intake. Then long tube headers. From What I've seen at the track. Long tubes really make power. And for the steet, you won't lose low end torque the way you would with aftermarket cams.
Add sticky tires, you've got the gears, and 12's are very possible.

only mods i have on the car are whats in my sig :( . anyways, i was of thinking of having the pi heads p&p later on and maybe even giving it some slight upgrades rather than replacing them with another set of heads altogether.

i'd love to go with lt's, but this thing needs to be smogged in the lovely state of california :notnice: .
