2000 Cobra R wheel Fox fitment.

Fitting 18"x9" 5 lug 2000 Cobra R wheels on a fox???

I recently picked up a 93 LX coupe... basic plans are a Full MM suspension, 331, Vortech, etc... Semi open track car, and the occasional romp down the street, weekend warrior.

I have used the Search feature, but nothing specific has come up

First line of business is upgrading the rearend. Im currently going to 5 lug 31spline axles, Torsen T2R, 3:73s.

Well, going to five lugs in the rear is pushing me to new wheels. I would like to put on the 18x9" 2000 Cobra Rs on (for the street). These wheels will be 9" wide, not 9.5.

Is it necessary to go to the Sn95 (94-95) spindles, hubs, and calipers? Or can I just throw on a set of 5 lug rotors for a while (serious rubbing, etc)? This is just so I can get it on the street with five lugs..

Has anyone done this? I have seen Fox bodies running 18" 5 luggers, but most have gone to a Baer kit or somthing along those lines.

Im eventually going with a big brake kit, which in turn I will be going to the different spindles, etc.

pretty much any 5 lug will work with a 9" rim. either way with a 9" rim in the front unless you use spacers or a wide offset, they rub on the lower arms.

i had a basic junkyard 5 lug conversion before and ran 18x9 wheels, now i have sn95 spindles and 13" brakes and nothing is different.

96 and up spindles have an 8mm offset i believe it is over the 95 spindles also. make sure you get those unless you want the rim sticking out further.

Do you know if the 2000 Cobra r wheel will rub without a spacer?

I was aware of the differences between the 94*95 spindles and the later 96 and on.

My question is, when you did the swap from the Fox spindles to the Sn95 ones, do you have any problems aligning anything (ie the hole in the spindle and the nut? I was told that you have to get some sort of spacer to fit on the spindle?????

The spacer you are thinking of, is for SN95 spindles to work with Fox ball joints. If you retain your stock ball joints, you need a 0.330" spacer to bolt up the spindle.

If your buying new ball joints, you will want SN95 balljoints and will not need to use a spacer.

i think he means a spacer to offset the wheel.

they will rub without a spacer or some rack and pinion bushing kits you can get. just throwing a 9" rim on is going to rub under full lock.

i use 2003 cobras front and back w/ 95 conversion doesnt rub

Sorry it sounded confusing, because I asked one question then jumped to the next.... But yes, this is one of the answers I was looking for...

So, Im assuming the best way to go would be to get Sn95, spindles, ball joints, calipers, hubs from a 94-95.. I would guess I could get these for about 400.00.. does that sound about right.

Well it sounds like I could run the 18x9 wheel without a problem with just the rotors and nothing else new; as long as Im not making tight turns...

Like I said, this will only be a band-aid till I move forward on the 4 wheel big brake kit.

If anyone else has ideas or comments, feel free to add them.

I got the complete front assembly from a 94GT for $300.. spindles, hubs, calipers, caliper brackets, rotors/pads, flex lines.

The spacer is just to ensure you don't run out of threads on the ball joint, so if your ball joints are in good shape, i wouldn't worry about changing them.

Did you retain your original ball joint? If so, did you have to fab up some spacers so you didnt run out of thread?

I guess I will just do it, and when that hurdle comes I will jump it.
