My buddy just got one:
Is it a 460 or 1000?
What size are the speakers?
Is it easy or necessary to upgrade (he has some Alpines from his last car, a Tiburon)?

I searched this forum but most was about upgrading and such, not much about specifications.
Thank you!

Yea, that's the first site I found when I googled it but I thought I'd ask here as well. Thanks.

1000 = 10" sub in trunk... and it's a bitch to upgrade your system. You have to basically replace everything unless all you want to do is swap the head unit.

I just swapped the head unit and put in a sub to my 460 and called it a day.

That's what I remembered hearing ... he can't just swap in some Alpine speakers (same size as stock) in place of his old ones, correct? Why?

You can, but the 460 divides frequencies between the speakers. It would be kind of a waste.

You can't. the mach 460 speakers are different Ohms, you'll end up /w either lower sounding speakers (to much ohms = lower volume) or burned up amps (to low ohms = pulls to much power).

besides, the stock 460 amps are like 2% THD which is a lot of distortion, if you're actually going to replace the speakers in the doors why not just run new wires to the deck. I would only stop at replacing the Head unit... if you do anymore work you might was well go all the way and replaced the wires and amps in the back.
