im haveing a problem with a stang i just got. it was a theft recovery that im gonna part out what i can. i got the motor to roll over but it wont fire. it has a theft light that flashes on the dash. does it kill the electrical system to stop it from firing? if so how do i get around it? also can you hear the fuel pump run when you first turn the key?

If the light is on it is probably the computer keeping it from cranking. Take it to a ford dealership and have them clear the codes. Hope this helps.

if the theft light is blinking that usually means there's not enough power to start the car, have the car jumped, you might just have a dead cell in the battery

ok i now know what my problem is. im not using the key because the ignition was broke i have to use a screw driver to roll it over. i guess the key has a chip. is there a way to rewire the key fob switch?

as far as I know only ford can rekey the car, the instrument cluster and ignition are all coded I think to the key. And you cant get a copy of the key made unless you have 2 keys, takes 2 to make 1 for some reason.

All meant to make these cars harder to sleat effectively.

Haha - I'm an expert at this.

The reason it flashes theft is you're using a remade key that does NOT have a chip, it turns over for like a second or two then just dies, right?

Yeah, happened to me, then I decided to try the other key (which I didnt know had a chip) and it worked fine.

Good luck with a new key, bub, I just had one made. $130; they had to hook up to detroit and everything to get the codes. If you have two, though, you can make a 3rd for 30 bucks or so (whatever it costs for an unprogrammed, chipped key).

For anyone who wants to know how to make a third with two PROGRAMMED keys, heres how to do it:

1. Buy a 3rd unprogrammed key
2. Take key one, put it in the ignition and turn it forward so the electronics are on (dont start the car)
3. Wait about 5 seconds, then shut it off and remove it
4. Take key two and repeat the process.
5. Then take the third, unprogrammed key, and do the same. The car recognizes that you have two different programmed keys and programs the third for you.

Pretty neat, eh?

Ahh, thats not good. I dont know anything about overwriting it...you may need to get it towed to a dealer so they can make you a key .

I'm sure theres a way to overwrite it, but I wouldnt risk tampering with it. Thats just me though, do what you like. I guess if you're parting out the vehicle you wouldnt mind tampering with it.

Just remember its going to be around $130 for the first key...I'm not sure how much they charge for a second because they already have all the data (I'm assuming just $30).

EDIT to answer the other questions in original posts:

Yes, the theft system just turns electrical off to stop it from firing (almost positive on this).

The fuel pump should turn on when you have the ignition turned forward, but not started up.

i also dont want to pay for a key i just want to hear the motor run befor it gets pulled. where is the coil pack? does it have one? there has to be some way. what happens when a ing tumbler gets broke and you buy a new one it wont match the key.

Why do you want to hear it run?

I guarantee it runs fine if it turns over then dies, thats what its supposed to do.

It doesnt start because of the electronic theft device. Anyways, I guess you're going to have to tamper with that device because you're not going to get it to start unless you get a chipped key made.
