Unfortunately he (she if you get down that way) forgot to touch anything else on it.

To make the Mustang and TA being talked about equal you have to put the $6K difference between them back in to the Mustang. Once you've done that there's no question that the TA no longer wins the race, it's just up to you which you would rather drive. Guess which one I would choose?

I choose the Mustang.

Im not bias as most of the responders. I have owned both Fbodies and Mustangs. The TA you are looking at looks nice, it is just that the amount of money needed for a Mustang to be as fast as a Fbody might not be worth it. Sure I like the looks, interior and ability to do my own engine mods on the mustang, but the TA is just as cool IMO. Doing some mods would require a lift and a heavy amount of labor if you want to modify it. But, most guys just do all of the engine mods at once and call it a day.

Basically decide which you would rather have the looks of a Mustang or the faster TA.

well based on your original post i would say you have your mind set on the Trans. Since in your mind it is 100% a better car. Although you posted this on a mustang forum what do you expect to get out of it ? everyone on here owns a mustang for a reason. We like them better than F-bodys. But if you want opinions, F-bodys are fugly and there is a reason they stopped making them. If you want a big push-rod motor go for it. The plastic in Gm vehicles will break, you will get a cracked dash at some point. Since there are NO f-bodys where you live, ( must be import/ford town) you will be unique. but its your money. Is that trans worth as much as they are asking for it ? I am sure you could get a 4v cobra /mach1 for that kind of money which would be a way better car imo, and not so ugly. And those wheels are terrible if you buy that car sell them and get something nicer for that ugly beast.

Here's my $.02 - Stock for stock, the LS1 car is faster hands down. Having said that, the speed limits on public roadways are the same whether you drive a car with an LS1 or a 2v 4.6. My friend has a late 90's Trans Am, and working on that car is a real PITA; I wouldn't own one for that specific reason. As far as interior is concerned, I prefer the interior of my '01 GT over the F-Body cars. To me it just feels like I'm sitting down in a hole when I get into my friend's TA. With all of these things taken into consideration, it all comes down to what you want. If the dealer sticking wheels/tires on the TA is a selling factor for you, forget that. I would guess that they got a deal on the combo and just threw them on there to catch the eye of a passerby. Is the Mustang an automatic or 5spd?

The Mustang is a better car to have. T/A's and Camaros are not seen around here anymore. They don't make them anymore, they are overpriced. Ford did it right with the Mustang. I have 12 Mustangs, and I plan on building more.

T/A is $12,000 (KBB is higher)

12K for a 70,000 mile Thunder bird is too much IMO. I remember i almost bought a 98 T/A back in 03' for $8,200 that had 80k miles - but my dad thought it'd be too dangerous for my age back then. Thank god he did, otherwise i wouldn't have my mustang. Although i do sometimes wish i was born like 2-3 years earlier so that i could have afforded an 00/01 GT. (bought w/ my own money 7-8k was all i had)

Those rims are so ghetto

You might as well buy a 1982 cadillac and throw 22's on it

Well it sounded to me like you had your mind made up from the get-go.. and regardless of what anyone else has to say about the car, you're the one that has to drive it. If you're happy that's all that matters.

youre right, what someone else thinks, doesn't really matter... for some reason I've always been caught up in what others think... (probly cause I'm such a nerd)

nonetheless, I have always liked my Mustangs, but I really do like this car, it's interior is VERY nice....

thanks!

it's a 6-speed. (that was a big plus to me)

the car was a carfaxed 1-owner car, has 61,000 miles (for a 7 year old car, not bad) - and not one door ding... the rubber around the t-tops is perfect, it was garaged and never taken out in any kind of bad weather... I figured since my 5.0 had 134,000 miles, this car would last me, and it's so much more comfortable to drive.

now about the wheels, someone help me out here...

if I was to go and buy new wheels, I would never buy 20's (these are 235/35 ZR 20 tires....)

however, in person, the car actually looks pretty good IMO... but... since the bigger wheels have a "gangster" stigma about them, I am not opposed to doing something different, but what to do.... I could probably sell these for enough to buy something else? since these are brand new?

I really don't get the people hating on the T/A's, I think they're beautiful cars. Too much GM vs Ford bias in here I think

Regardless, grats on the purchase. And yes, those wheels have to go. Have. To. Go. Yesterday. Drop it a little bit, and maybe pick up a WS6 hood or ram air kit whatever it is the WS6's run with.

...and then hang your head in shame as the babes in your neighborhood turn you down for the guy next door packing a late model Stang.

ok! please help someone! (and don't flame me for possibly dissing on a mustang)

I have a 93 GT right now, gonna sell it and buy either a 2001 Mustang GT (pictured below) or a 2000 TransAm (also pictured below)
the mustang is like $6,000 cheaper than the trans am, BUT.... this is my understanding

(1) there is ZERO chance of the mustang ever even thinking about keeping up with the trans am, even if the mustang has 4.10 gears, exhaust, a chip and intake.... the stock trans am would blow its doors off still, and in embarrassing fashion....

(2) the interior on the trans am is just waaaaaay nicer, the recaro style seats, etc.

now, I have had 4 different mustangs, a 2000 GT, a '97 GT, a 93GT and a 98 Cobra...

everyone tells me that the trans am (the LS1 engines) will just eat any mustang alive...

can someone shed some light on this for me, and tell me, if I buy the mustang and spend a ton of $$$ with mods, is a stock T/A still gonna smoke me?????

(here's pics of both cars!)

I think you answered your own question really quick ......6000 dollars cheaper , holy crap can you say MOD MONEY , put a vortech on the GT for about 3000-4000 and suck the headlights out of that trans am .............
