Can anyone tell me if a 2002 GT ECU will work in my 2001 GT? I know the ECU would have to be for an auto tranny but are there differences why it would not work? Thanks for your help.

why do you want to go to a 2002 ecu?

ecu swaps are tough in our cars because of the pats system. unless you got a good reason i am going to say, possible but not worth it at all.

Ditto with svttech. Is your '01 the windsor block? I wonder if the PCM for the romeo is a tad different.

There are some slight differences in some of the sensors. Like I think 2002 is when they changed to the larger MAF and pink injectors, so there would be some variances in the tune. Unless yours is shot there is nothing to gain from it.

My buddy has a 2001 GT and he thinks the ECU went south on it. We have found a 2002 GT ECU locally but we weren't sure if this was a direct swap or not. I thought it would be because most handheld tuners cover multiple years
within that period.

No it's not a direct swap. and it won't be with ANY pcm because of the pats system.
