My friend has a 2001 GT 5spd that has recently because powerless around 4k rpm. It sputters almost as if it hits a rev limiter or something. He replaced the fuel filter thinking that could be the problem but it did nothing. it's been giving him problems almost to the point where it has so little power it's almost undriveable. He has replaced the plugs about a month ago. Shortly before that he replaced the belt tensioner which he overtightened a bolt and cracked the timing cover. He replaced the timing cover, I believe the EGR and possibly somehting else. I don't believe it has a CEL on but I could be wrong. Any ideas?

if you have access to live data with a good scan tool you can watch what the PCM sees for fuel presure and then compare it to the presure you read wiht a fuel presure guage. I have seen this problem both be due to a bad fuel pump and a bad fuel rail presure sensor.

If the fuel system is ok I would check the coils.

I had the same problem and everyone told me Fuel Pump. So went bought a fuel pump still have same problem.

Try looking at Mass air flow sensor.

You can't just throw parts at a problem, these are only suggestions on here and tips what system the problem may be in.

You need to do TESTS, start by testing the fuel pressure then check the ignition and go from there.. Hell you can have low fuel presure at high loads due to a bad fuel rail presure sensor if your car is a 99+ or a bad regulator could even be that you are not getting 12v at the pump due to bad wirring. all of these are impossible to tell over the internet..

I don't care who it is on here it's hard to diag a car on the internet. If you live near me I would be glad to daig the car for you in person. Of course for a small fee but atleast you would be sure what you are replacing will fix it.
