You guys forget one thing, the GTO is suppose to be a sleeper. If you want a lot of show that's what the Trans Am or Camero was for or for that matter, the new 05GT with the retro look. I like the understated look because I don't every cop in the city LOOKing at me (just the ones that know what it is). What I like is the great ride, the thrust of the LS1, and the european fit and finish with the American muscle sound from under the hood.

I'll tell you this, whoever was driving those cars in the test sucked. Pretty weak numbers . . . :flag:

I like this:
For our tastes, in the end, pure might doesn’t necessarily prove right. For all the GTO’s brute power—its liter-and-a-half, 100-horse advantage, its quarter-second-quicker 0-to-60-mph time, three-tenths- quicker quarter-mile time—not to mention the car’s hefty price premium, it simply cannot match the Mustang for feel, style or value.

Sorry Doc. Unfortunately your defense of the GTO's fuglyness isn't what most people want in their sports cars. The sleeper theory. Weak. I'll give you this, the interior looks nice. Looks like a comfortable ride. This GTO styling would have been a huge hit circa 1998. GM Bigwig heads need to roll and they NEED to bring us a knockout Camero. If they keep sending us stuff like the GTO, they'll keep getting the finger from people like me. :bang:

That's pretty cool, I thought it would make more power then that since that's close to the numbers that KB Cobra puts out with a 281 ci motor. Cool car either way. The GTO is definitly growing on me. :flag:

At least I'll see your finger in my rear view mirror :D
People have different tastes and you may be a guy that likes wild or "here I am" style. That's o.k.. If I want that I'll buy the Bat Mobile. For know, I like the stealthy look and room for my kids in the back seats.

I prefer the stang, (big surprise) but I like the idea of competition improving the breed. Let Ford continue the retro styling, and GM can go for the more contemporary look.

It wouldn't take much in styling mods to make the gto look really hot. I have always owned stangs instead of camaros, but gm usually had a better styled car back in the day of direct competition. Let's hope gm stays in the muscle car game instead of jumping out based on gto sales #'s.

I have to agree with some aftermarket styling mods, the GTO does start looking good. It was the bland look of the 04 without any hoodscopes and sporty styling that killed it for me. With the scopes on the hood, and some nice sporty aero effects and rear spoiler, and of course some nice wheels, it does look much better.

Kind of like the 05 Mustang. It needs a few mods to get it up to the performance numbers of a GTO, but considering it's less than a second off the GTO quarter mile times, maybe 4.10 gears, a tune, CAI, and some slicks would get it right there. Then again of course, a GTO can be modded as well.

I guess the point is, either car can be modded to look and perform like you want. All the fun of having a car you enjoy.

I dont' really like the GTO even when modified. Something about it - body style or what not. However, it is really FUN to try and get Docs goat (pun intended). :) It is actuall kind of nice to have a moderator who owns a GTO on a Mustang forum - and although rightfully biased, he plays along. I'm convinced we (the forum) is still gonna get Doc to come around to the dark side! :)

Why would I be fliping you off  I don't have any reason that I know of to flip you off. Certainly not because you like the GTO. That's cool. I don't and i'm way not alone in that line of thinking. I think its fugly and I think the mustang is the most wonderful thing I've ever laid eyes on. Car wise :D But I got nothing agaist you.

"Goat"? "Dog", more like! From what I've seen of the interior, and read of the performance, the shell does the car NO JUSTICE.

Doc, you maybe happy with the "sleeper" look (c'mon, admit that it's just bland), but sales figures don't lie. With the engine the GTO has, it should be selling, and it's not.

Some of those mod'd GTO's look pretty good, so why can't Pontiac get it looking hot off the production line? Let's hope they get it right and save the car from oblivion (and more GM guys from the chopping block!).

Personally, I'd like to see them get it right. How sad that the majority of non-GTO comparison threads are v the 350Z (some Vettes, but c'mon...), cos there's no more US competition? Good luck, Pontiac.

Well said... I was a camaro guy but when I was in the market GM had nothing to offer... The GTO was out and I think it looks like a cheap grand am... Yeah it has a nice engine but it is UGLY as hell

GM still has nothing too offer (except maybe the new CTS or VETTE)

but too expensive
