2005 in Vancouver

Just got back from the Vancouver Mustang Stampede show.. they had a torch red 2005 Mustang GT there. It...was....AWESOME!!!!! They drove it in with a police car leading it (Ford Crown Vic, of course) and people were cheering. Let's see, where shall I start. I sat in the car many times.. I am 6 foot 2 with size 12 feet, and I had PLENTY of room. Way more than in my '98. In fact, when I sat on the front passenger side, I stretched my legs all the way out and straightened my toes, and I was still not touching. Try that in today's car! When I sat in the driver's seat, the view out was perfect. The shifter is placed just right, your hand falls right on it naturally. I had no trouble shifting it with my back on the seat. The shift feel is very good, not notchy or difficult at all. The car was started up and revved a few times.. If you have the June 2004 Mustang Enthusiast magazine, go to page 39.. Mark Rushbrook, the Mustang development manager, was the one who drove the car and revved it. I talked to him for a few minutes. Maybe I was the only one who was wondering, but when I asked him if there would be a removable hardtop on the convertible like on the '95 Cobra, he said no. Darn it! Anyway, when he revved it, it sounded pretty good. Just as good or better than the stock 4.6 engines do now. Not to say that it couldn't sound better! But that's what Flowmasters are for. So overall I would say it is a major improvement over what we have now. Anyone who buys one will NOT be disappointed!
***NOW I need someone's help. I have 21 pictures to post; what's the best way to do it?***

I forgot to say, when I AKSED when the car magazines get to test the Mustang, I was told that they are doing their "first drives" next week which means the press gets to drive them, but it's by Ford's rules. No instrumented testing. Motor Trend and the rest get to do a full road test in a month or so. I'll be looking forward to that.

Here's the last 2 pictures.. what happened is at the very end of the show, as they were about to hand out trophys, there was a drawing to see who got to have their car parked next to the 2005. The guy who won actually won that '65 in another contest two years ago. Well, better that car next to the 2005 than one of the 2 Mustang II's that were there! :rlaugh:

actually it would have been a shame to see your car in the pic, i would rather take the bus..
a 98 tickin time bomb 3.8 with extra lights and a crappy sound system..
:bang:
how does it feel :nonono:

Here we go again... Why do stangers feel the need to slam the Mustang II? :notnice: I mean what were the cars at the show? rust buckets??? If you park a Cobra II next to a 2005 you may say "holy *****" Ford designed the 05 after the Cobra II!!! It looks closer to a II than the one in your pic... Ugly my...***
FYI...

Calm down people.. untwist your panties.. guess I should have seen that one coming. Tell you what, I'd rather drive a Mustang II than a brand new Acura RSX, now is anyone going to freak out about that?? I personally just don't care for the II's very much, no matter how much current owners modify them. More power to you. Oh and ripping on my car is a waste of time; I do it myself in my signature! Think I care? Damn V-6... Still it is faster than most STOCK engines that were found in the Mustang II's, now isn't it?

Why don't we think for a minute about the times the Mustang II was built during. The gas crunch, economy woes, enviromental issues, gas prices where on the way up. What was Ford supposed to do, keep stuffing the big blocks in the stang as years previous. Which I would rather own one of the classic stangs than any of the stangs that are out today if I had the $$$, but I would keep my II because I like it.
I like the 05, and if you open your eyes you might actually see the similarities between it and the II.
You go out and buy your 05, change the chips in it, have Flowmasters put on, oh and don't forget the K&N, and then sit back and feel like a real man knowing you have accomplished something. I'd rather build, restore my car from the ground up making it the way I want it, knowing every nut and bolt on it, that's something to really be proud of.
And then get your a** kicked by some of the II's that exist over on the II forum!!!

Can you tell it's pretty easy to troll some II owners?

Seems the people who've had the car the least time are the easiest catch.

Carry on.

Here's an idea: Next time you say something that you THINK is correct, do your homework. To start off, try reading this:

Next, go visit www.mustangII.net

Fact is, most people don't know anything about the II or just how viable it was in the 1970s. Lemme guess, you weren't around then? Then the problem is, you're taking it (as well as your own car) out of context.

My 78 Cobra had a 302 V8 (139bhp), and was faster than a 78 Camaro 305 (145bhp) because it had more torque and was in smaller/lighter car. And my 5.0 V8 was better motor than any 305 Chevy, as it went on to power Mustangs until 1995. (GM dropped the 305). So you see, when you have the maturity and knowledge to see the whole picture, to take things in context, the Mustang II can ONLY be considered a solid success for Ford.

Let's see, you have 98 V6 Mustang: Is it faster than its direct competitor of the same year, say a 98 V6 Camaro? No. Is the 3.8 even a better motor than the Chevy V6? No. (I have a 3.8 in my wife's Crapstar minivan -- a true POS.) Comapring your car to one 25 years older from the smog-motor era is just stupid. That's like saying a a 96 Chevy Lumina has more standard horsepower (160) than a 53 Corvette (150). Does that make the original Vette a pile of junk that one should be embarrassed about? Not exactly.

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion. Just don't base it on ignorance, because you lose all your credibility that way. A little knowledge is a powerful thing ... meaning informed opinions are the only ones worth listening to.

Wart, FYI I have owned 3 II's over the last 20 or so years. I just dont appreciate the car being slammed on. I never slam on ANY mustang. I slam Camaro's :nice:

Red98, ok their untwisted, I appreciate the the Honda comment. Do you ever get down south to Utah? If you do look me up or email me, I'll let you take the white car for a drive, It WILL twist your panties, maybe even wet em. :rlaugh: :nice:

And I still have 3 of the 4 II's I've had over the last 26 years, 6 months (more or less).

Man, at some point you have to get over it.
