There have been many news storys about accidents with black box data, so I'm not 100% certain this is the one I previously read about, but I belive that this particular accident was in a residential area with a speed limit around 35 - 45 MPH and he may have been under the influence (drugs). I don't care what you other Mustang speed freaks will try to argue, but if this idiot was high and going 106 MPH, or >60 MPH over the limit, in a residential area and he ended up killing someone, he got what he deserved.
Bottom line, if you want to driver at >100 MPH, either GO TO A RACETRACK or move to Germany.
I'm definitly against the black box, but it's not really telling them much more than they can find out already through investigation. Have I mentioned I hate this black box idea?
There is no way to beat the black box without disabling your airbag system. The black box records the last 5 seconds. It gives a speed read out, percent of throttle, brake pressure applied, as well as speed etc. Originally, only the car manufacturer could decipher the encryption but sometime ago the auto industry gave encryption devices to the insurance industry and then to law enforcement.
I guess you could contest illegal search and seizure and have the evidence thrown out of court as non admissible but then again you could save a 106+ run for the track and not have to worry about it
I heard from someone who lives near where this "accident" occured.
It was a residential area, 35 MPH speed limit.
So he was going a mere 71 MPH over the limit.
The driver was drunk.
He plowed into a car that was stopped at a light.
OK guys, let's hear your reasons why the driver should be let off the hook, because "it was just an accident."
