I've almost given up hope trying to figure out what the problem is. I've replaced the shocks about two months ago, replaced the rear brakes and rotors, got the differential serviced (it was leaking from the pinion seal. I can't replicate the noise by simply bouncing the rear end up and down. I only hear the noise when coming to a stop and when accelerating from a stop and it is the most awful noise I've ever heard. I've jacked the car up at the rear and spun the wheels by hand and didn't hear the noise. There wasn't any play either. My only guess is the bushings on the rear sway bar but I don't really hear any noise when hitting bumps in the road. I've attached a link to a video where you can hear the awful noise.

Did you ever find out what the problem was ?I think my car is doing the same thing. My guess is wheel bearing, diff bearing or upper control arm?

I have the same noise in my 2008 v6. I also notice it on turns when driving slow, or start and stopping from stop signs. It's done it for years with no issue. I can really only hear it when the radio is off. If you find it let us know.

Don't worry about it. I saw a newer Audi A8 a few weeks ago that was making the same noise. Probably just normal wear and tear and weather.

One thing you can do to lessen the jerk and the noise is to remove the rear driveline and lubricate the slip yoke splines with the special teflon driveline grease
Also neutralize the suspension (another NHV trick)

Those old Broncos would creak and pop so bad people would trade them in
Remove the rear driveline and grease the slip yoke splines
Then you could sell it as a creampuff

It must be real common,my 05 does it when slowing down ,i put it up on the lift and put it in gear ,it seems to be coming from the pinion ,i believe it is the pinion bearing ,thing is i have put 3 rear ends in this thing and all three do the same . It seems to get quieter as it warms up
