200amp install, why put a fuse in the 4g wire?

Hey there I recently installed a 200 amp altanator and i heard to put a fuse in the 4gauge wire, is this nessary. and why is it needed?

I think that is regulated voltage coming from the alt. If for some reason the internal regulator stops doing it's job, it could very quickly overheat that wire, and cause a fire. Why wouldn't you fuse it?

i cant get a fuse and fuse holder anywhere buy me they dont have them that big and i dont have a credit card to order one.

you should do it. as others said, should the wire short out or the alt have an internal short, the wire will catch on fire.

stereo shops have fuses and holders. if not, a family member should have a CC that you can use. you should fuse that wire.

For a 200 amp alt, I would use 2 gauge wire with a 200 amp fuse.
