2011 GT 5.0 or 07-09 Shelby GT 500

Ok guys Im selling my 347 stroked 94. Not that I don't like it, I love it had it for 10 years, just that things have changed in my life and I just want something to get in and go.

So here is the deal I am considering 2 cars in the same price range.

The GT 500 2007-2009ish something with low miles. I have noticed alot of people dont drive these much and its pretty easy to find a nice one.

Or a new 2011 GT?

What is the census on this? Can any owners of each give me their opinions.

I know one of them would be used but I have been in LOVE with the Shelby since it was anounced.

I was about to post the exact same question. I am in the market for a new 2011 or Shelby. I am leaning toward a 2011 cause I can get all the options color ect that I want. But that Shelby name and extra HP has me going back and forth.

depends how much you going to drive it .. as a DD I say the 5.0 .. A weekend cruiser or a second car I say go for the Shelby .. just my 2 cents ...

If the Shelby is what you've always liked then that's what you should get. If you don't you'll always be thinking "I could've had ....."

Having said that, the '07-'10 GT500 has had the same criticism from the press ever since it came out, just too heavy and too much weight up front to handle the way it should for a car in that price range. It's out of my incomes reach so I haven't driven one, but if the choice were mine I think I would go with '11 GT, I'm just in love with that coyote engine; 412hp stock and it's the sexiest looking engine Ford put in a mustang since the 351 Cleveland

You need to ask yourself what you value most. If you want a car that can easily handle a lot more HP, get a GT500. If you want something new to cruise around in & don't plan on adding a ton more HP, get a new '11. Also, you have to consider if you just want something brand new & unmolested or if that even matters.

If you just want something that would be fun for daily driving purposes, I say get an '11. If you plan to do any racing(recreational or competitive), get a GT500.

I currently drive an '11 GT. I thought about a used GT500, but found that if I was spending $30K on a car that I'd rather have one brand new. Also, I only plan occasional trips to the track for fun. So a new '11 was best for me. But my priorities are not yours, so decide what you value you most & then make your decision. Good luck! I think you'll find most people would love to have your dilemma!

Well I see people might be leaning towards a 2011, as more of a daily driver which is what I am looking for. What would not make the Shelby a good DD I shifts like butter and has all the comforts a GT has.

As for it being heavy up front. Most people won't push it that far to really feel it , at least I know I won't.

Any Shelby owners in here what do you like and dislike about the car.

-Looks better (imo)
-More hp
-Blower
-More exclusive
-Hold it's value better
-Better base to build power

The uniqueness of the Shelby is the appeal to me. I feel like if I get the GT I have to do something to it to stand out rims, spoilers, etc. With the Shelby it well a "Shelby".

On the other hand that new 5.0 is nice and it gets great gas mileage. Plus I would get it in auto. So it would be an easy driver.

Well guess as soon as my 94 sells it will be a couple late nights on the Internet drooling at cars.

I've wondered this. The 5.0 I've built on the Ford site is $43,000 and that would get me a 2010 GT500.
So really in my eyes, if your not going to pile on the miles, go the GT500 route. If you are a mileage guy or like after market mods, go with the 5.0 GT.

How much under sticker are people able to get the 5.0, or are people paying sticker price for there cars. I have also built a car it came to around 42k, do you think thats what I would pay?

I know I would personally go with the GT500 without a question in my mind. The GT500 based on both age and status (it's a shelby - and less mainstream than a GT) is going to retain value much better than a brand new car, especially if you get a good deal on an older model. They have bullet proof blocks, and compression is already low, which lends itself to much higher boost than stock. Right now, 5.0s are a bit of a novelty because they're new. Soon, they'll be everywhere, and people will look at them the same way people have always looked at mustang GTs. Meanwhile, people will still think more highly of a Shelby.

The only argument in favor of the GT is that they will be under a longer warranty and may not cost as much out of pocket in the event that repairs are needed.

Go to edmunds.com and build your mustang. It will give you the invoice price & what other in your area are paying. You should be able to get yours around or under invoice with the factory rebate. I got mine under invoice with rebate.

Unless it's still in warranty, then you can get Fords ESP extended warranty up to 100,000 miles. On a supercharged Mustang it'll be about $1,000.

I posted the same question on a few other forums. I had my heart set at a 2008 low miles GT500. then i took the 2011 5.0 out on a test drive............ MADE UP MY MIND. I think you should get something new, not only for the warranty but beacuse IT'S NEW! Later on you will probably customize it to your liking anyways, CAI. Exhuast, Body kits...etc etc etc. get a new 5.0 you won't regret it. here are a few teaser pics ...lol

94 still for sale.. Soon as that's gone, I will be starting a new love affair. So what if she had a previous boyfriend or girlfriend as long as they took care of her.

I currently have an 2006 GT and went through the same argument with myself a month ago. I test drove an 11 with the Brembo pkg and a 2009 GT-500. Ended up buying the GT-500, the 2011 was awesome but I just always wanted a Shelby... Don't regret the decision at all, the Shelby is stupid fast the way it sits and not nearly as common as the new GT's will be. Now I gotta sell the 06!
