2012 GT owners fuel cap/filler?

Hey 2012 GT owners, did your Stang come with a locking fuel plug? My car is suppose to arrive this week and I need to know whether or not to order the optional $25 locking fuel plug. I don't want people messing with my gas tank.

No cap comes installed on them unless you order it. If someone is wanting to violate your car..I am sure they'll do it even if you have a gas cap on there.

I have to agree with this. A lock will only keep the honest folk out. If your realm is that bad, consider moving?

Gotta agree.....when was the last time someone messed with the gas in your car? Just because it is a Mustang does not make it a magnet for idiots.

I just ordered the locking gas plug. If someone wants to mess with the car, they are going to, but, it will be a lot more obvious and external (as opposed to someone dumping some crap into my fuel tank and me driving away unknowingly damaging my motor). I don't live in a risky neighborhood, I just like the piece of mind knowing that no one can tamper with my fuel. For $28, it's worth the piece of mind I receive.

Every car I own has a tamper-proof fuel door/cap. With gas prices going the way they are, siphoning can be a concern as well.

My Ford dealer parts guy didn't know anything about them six months ago. I ordered mine on Ford's site and picked it up at same dealer.

One thing to add, you cannot easily put anything into the gas inlet unless you have an adapter that is in the trunk of your car anyway. It is set up to only open when you insert a gas nosel.

But I have been told by a few people that they are not sure that water cannot seep into gas tank when you go through a car wash. To me, it was worth the $27 to keep out water and the peace of mind that nobody could put sugar or anything else in my tank.

When is the last time anyone actually had their gas siphoned out? Never happened to me in 30+ years.

Seems the "in" thing to do these days is to drill a hole in the tank itself and pour the gas into something. Locking cap won't do diddly for that.

Because they are a pain in the arse! Our 3000GT has one and I always get out at the gas station, swipe my card, turn around and realize that I didn't pull the lever inside the car... so I have to lay the pump down, get back in the car, yada, yada, yada....

With that said, I like Fords way.

I had an old aftermarket locking fuel cap once. It got stuck, and I pulled it apart with a pair of pliers, then unscrewed the actual cap. I doubt I'll ever buy one.

I haven't looked at the Mustang, but I know the Chrysler cars (probably others) are now coming with a drain plug on the bottom of the gas tank. My wife wrecked her old Chrysler a few years back and I pulled the drain plug and drained it 5 gallons at a time into a gas can.

I normally walk around at night with a bag of sugar, if I can dump it in the tank of cars, that is a plus. But if they have a locking fuel cap I move on.

I hate to say it but there are a lot of jealous idiots out there who hate you for having a nice car. My Dad had a '73 ford pickup with a newly rebilt and very nice sounding 302 in it. Some fruitcake poured sugar and fine sand into his tank. I had a 289 Mustang engine I was rebuilding and gave him that so hecould get to work.
So, yea I, want a locking cap as well.
