hey guys, as you all probably know we are having some bad fires here in southern cali. I just want to thank the firefighters from up north that are here helping us in this time of need. It is always great that we as Americans always help each other in these devastating situations that we encounter in the nation. I don't know what is going to happen, but at the end everything is replaceable but lives aren't. I only have my honda and whatever was in it when I left to work on Monday. I don't know if anything is left or if we have been spared as they willl not let us back in to check. I had to leave my mustang and my truck behind, so it is a sad time for me and others that have lost their homes already.
But again many thanks to you guys from the north and other states that are helping out!

Sorry to hear about your potential loss of belongings, but the key is you are ok.

The last time you guys in Cali has those bad fires... I was working as a Wildland firefighter, our unit was inline to get sent down. Bags were packed and everything, just waiting for the call. In the end we did not have too.

I also want to say thanks to the firefighters from up here (and all helping down there).

Jerry,

I hope your belongings are spared but like others have already said the only thing that matters is that you’re ok. You know you always have friends up here if you need a place to stay or need anything. Keep us updated and good luck.

dood, rancho bernardo got it hard..

I live in the Santa Monica hills right next to Malibu, looks like we will be all right. But San Diego was hit nasty

So far, this week's fires have destroyed about 1,500 homes and burned more than 700 square miles across five counties, from Ventura in the north all the way into Mexico. The state Office of Emergency Services said 28,000 homes were still threatened. What awaited many was an apocalyptic scene in Rancho Bernardo: entire streets leveled, cars reduced to charred hulks of metal, homes with only chimneys left standing. House after house, 29 on one street alone, were reduced to piles of blackened concrete, twisted metal and white ash.

hey guys, thanks for your concern, FORTUNATELY our neighborhood was spared, fire was close but went around us. Scared the piss out of all of us. At least we all know each other better now. It always takes something like this to bring people closer to each other.
Now I know how you guys felt when Mt ST Helens erupted the first time, except on a much smaller scale of course. There is ash for days floating around, it's nasty stuff! Anyways, I'm back but at least some fires are under control, except the one in lake arrowhead and it was caused by an arsonist. He lit some brush on fire and there happened to be a CHP helicopter above that saw the whole thing so they followed him and caught him. And some other dumb $hits that need to be hung..

Glad you are safe Jerry.

No fire in Oregon right now. But there are sand dunes

Are the fires a sign from above saying "move north Cali sucks donkey balls"

I looked a few days ago and verified that my old house and neighborhood were left untouched. Some of the neighborhoods towards Poway where my friends lived were hit hard. Much of the new homes I saw around RB a year ago when I visited got burned. It's amazing that many of these homes were built where they were. I remember fires annually down there, on many of the hills and canyons where there are now homes. It sucks for the people who own those homes, as many don't have fire insurance coverage.

yup, that's about right. It was really nasty stuff floating around! My friend in Lake Arrowhead has not been able to return yet. Doesn't even know if he still has a place.
