I have a 289 that has been bored .060 over. Was wondering what the best carb, fuel pump ( mechanical or electric), and headers, etc setup would be. Don't have a ton of money either. Any suggestions?

When I had my 289 i used a 750 carb and Holley electric pump, try y headers with 1 5/8 primaries. You really dont need anything special unless you have really big heads, manifold etc.Basic stuff will work.

Do I really need a 700cfm carb for a daily driver? Or would a 570 or 670 work better?

You could probably get away with a 480cfm if you have everything relatively stock. A 600 would be just fine and Holley 600s are all over the place. Unless you plan on bigger mods later, 1 1/2" primary long tube headers will be about right instead of 1 5/8". If you already have a mechanical pump, just stay with it.

You can't go wrong with the original speed parts for the 289: Fords current A321 high rise dual plane aluminum intake, a 600 Holley, and Shelby type Tri-y headers for the early Stangs. As for fuel pump, you don't need to go overboard there either, the stock mech pump is fine, electric doesn't need to deliver more than 30 gal/hr and 4-7 psi pressure. I run just such an electric pump on my 331 stroker with a repop Ford 3x2 intake and three Holley 250 carbs. Never been starved for fuel , even on full power 1/4 mile runs.

A good 4bbl dual plane intake, a good set of headers, a decent cam and a good carb.

I had a relatively simple combo that consisted of milled and small portwork 68 302 4V heads, with a crane blazer cam (don't know the specs off hand, but relatively mild by todays standards) A Performer RPM intake, a 650 Demon carb,a set of hooker 1 5/8 headers and 3.70 gears through a 4 speed the car went 12.60's @ 108.5.

750 cfm whether it be vaccum or mechanical is stupid and not needed on a 289 cubic inch motor. i don't care if your are reving it to 7K. A 600 vaccum secondaries carb is ideal, even though it is a tad on the big side. I am really a fan of the demon carbs and mechanical secondaries, but that is just me.

A set of 1 5/8 headers will be fine. IF you want alot of lowend torque, go with a set of Tri-Y headers They feature 1 1/2 stepped to 1 5/8 then up to the collector. They give the best of both worlds for practical street driving. Also, you don't want a large carb if you have an auto with mild or stock stall speeds. Take everyones advice and stay with a sensible carb

Im actually selling a relatively new holley 600 in the classifieds. its perfect for most 289 setups. almost brand new, its the holley 4160 4bbl shiny carb. alot of people probably have them on here. check it out.

Also, id say a weiand stealth intake and a set of tri y headers will do. then once u get a taste of all that and the budget, youll want more. the best bang for the buck mods imo are intake and carb, headers, and then rear end gear. and maybe a higher stall converter, buts thats a little more expensive and time consuming
