I'm in the process of doing an emergency timing job and need an alternative to the cam holding tool. I don't really have the time to order and wait for one. Does anyone have any alternate effective methods? Thank you!

Yes. Remove all of the cam followers. This will close all of the valves thus making it unnecessary to hold the cams in position.

Be sure to record where each cam follower is taken from so that they can be re-installed in the same location.

Recommend using the spring compressor tool to remove the followers and NOT a screw driver.

Note, it will still be VITAL to follow the Ford timing procedures when it comes time to re-time the valve train. Take pictures! Don't cut corners.

Go to modularheadshop and look at their faq... There is a very good write up on timing the 4.6

I timed mine with the followers installed... I didn't want to chance bending a valve.
