i re-used the crush sleave under advice from a guy who has been building cars for more years than i have been alive- my grandfather...he has built and restored probably 50 mustangs since he started working on cars and i trust his advice...
hey whatever works for you. i will continue to use new ones under the advice of ford motor company. they have built a couple of mustangs themselves put it this way we are supposed to use new sleeves when doing warrenty rebuilds. ford would not want to pay for the new crush sleeve if it was not important.
they have HUGE bold highlighted instructions in the service manual to use a new crush sleeve anytime the pinion nut is loosened. so even if you over tourqe the pinion you can't just loosen it you need to remove the pinion and install a new sleeve and pinion nut.
i will respectively disagree with you on this and move on.
